Thanks a lot for the info, Dan! It surely enriched my own rucksack of knowledge! That it was a long exposure was rather apparent to me, since the DoF is infinite and the light is lower than low. But that despite the long exposure we don't see any "smudging" of the water surface and of the reflections... that was a mystery to me. So, at full tide we can go for long exposures without thinking so much about the motion of the water? Certainly you did good work and chose the right time, I think.

About the pixelations artefacts, I marked up the image at those regions. Do you see the stair-steppings on the masts? They don't look continuous and smooth but rather as if they would consist of "blocks" of pixels. Not a real dominating thing but it is there. The reduction of dimensions should not be a problem if the resolution can be kept at reasonable levels, but of course this can't be always the case since sometimes the size of the image wull be too large for an upload. Still the 600dpi of this one should be sufficient for avoiding that "zig-zag", so I am also confused about the reasons of their appearance. Anyway, as already said, this is a rather academich problem. The image is still great.

Cheers!

Nick

Thanks Ania, I have one previously posted where it does not include the third light on the right, I have various other compositions based on zoom and this one including the light seems to be better balanced. I appreciate your comment it is very helpful my friend

Thanks so much Nick for your comments, lovely and detailed as usual, not sure about the artifacts you refer too, I do not see any in this shot as I would know artifacts to be, most like to be caused by the reduction of the file for 850 pixels. I could include more posts here because there was none, rocks just in front of the shot. This is a 15 second exposure, full tide so not the same movement as usual, also no wind etc so everything remained still, I have shots later this night when the tide started to go out where the boats are moving and more blurred.

Superb exposure here, Dan! You really got the most and the strongest out of it! The deep colors complement the lights so well and bring a good kind of tension together with the really stunning reflections! The details are good and sharp and only some very low pixelation artefacts can bee seen on some masts of the boats on the other side. The composition is also just about perfect to me. I don't know if concluding the whole reflections of the posts on the foreground could help it further. The choise of ISO 50 was excellent for the nice and smooth contours without noise. When I also consider your endless DoF, I must think of a long exposure, but then I would expect at least some motion blur of the surface of the water. So, how dod you do that?

It's amazing work!
