Location City -  Wadi Rum
State -
Country - Jordan   Jordan
About Wadi Rum (Arabic: وادي رم‎) is a valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock in southwest Jordan. It is the largest wadi in Jordan. The name Rum most likely comes from an Aramaic root meaning 'high' or 'elevated'. To reflect its proper Arabic pronunciation, archaeologists transcribe it as Wadi Ramm.

The area was "discovered" as a climbing area in 1984 by Tony Howard, Di Taylor, Mick Shaw, and Al Baker. Howard and Taylor have since written two guidebooks: Treks & Climbs in Wadi Rum and Jordan - Walks, Treks, Caves, Climbs & Canyons, both published by Cicerone Press: www.ciceronepress.co.uk

The area centred on Wadi Rum (the main valley) is home to the Zalabia Bedouin who, working with climbers and trekkes, have made a success of developing eco-adventure tourism, now their main source of income. The area around Disi to the NE, home to the Zuweida Bedouin and erroneously also thought to be part of Wadi Rum by visitors, caters more for Jordanian visitors from Amman, with campsites regularly used by party-goers.

You are right Aziz !

" With the annexation of the Nabataean kingdom by the Roman empire in 106 AD the defence of the new Arabia provincia fell to the Romans.

Down in the southern reaches of their expanded empire though, there is little evidence for any build-up of defences (such as there was in the later periods in the north).

The Nabataean forts along what became the via nova Traiana were taken over by the Romans, but no large garrisons were stationed this far south. "

Harry ,
Wadi means land, and Rum might be the same as Rome and may be due to the age of Roman Empire !
Jen ,
I like the rocky background, ..

The people weren't modern at all, I first thought
there was no one around, but finally saw the kid
standing there bering very shy! But you are right, I have seen lots of other tents, all open, cold and windy! Be well, Jenxx
