About This photo comes to you on a machine running bibble in debian and zenwalk.
It batch processes faster than windows xp did on this pentium 4.
So good to be free.
Apologies if needed for my silence. I've been completely concerned about setting up a p.c. for managing some wedding shots.

A nice one for its light that comes down in such a plentitude, Ian! There are many overexposed parts but they only support the general atmosphere and the expressions on the faces are better readable with that! In many ways it reminds me of those oldies but goldies that I see over and over again and never seem to lose their definite power.

As about linux... it is a matter of time until it establishes iself widely. Just like the Mac I use. Both have the same heart and that's *the* system. Unix!

Cheers!

Nick

Here's a good starting point Rog! There is an australian "distro" (package of linux) called puppy that is racing up the charts. I tried it out the other day, it was hilarious, I could read all my windows files with it and log onto the net.
Till recently my experience thus far has been with ubuntu, which was revolutionary in its ease of installation, and it is very popular, and slackware which was amazingly fast but not (then) so easy to install. I'm using Debian right now, and something called zenwalk, which is based on slackware, but has multimedia programmes added in.
You have three options for installing most packages. There is usually a "live cd" option which sits in your cdrom and ram. A "dual boot" in which you can put the files on your hard drive and also keep another programme (e.g. windows) There.
That's the smart move. Windows may be a pig designed for use by everyone on the planet (at a cost), but there are things linux can't do.
Debian and slackware seem cool. Debian is maintained by a geeks cooperative, and has a moral code (such as "we will not hide our faults"). Slackware maintained by one particular genius. There are other distros there. Suse is less than cool in my opinion bacause they signed a pact with microsoft at one stage (and a now I think a subsidiary of the same).

Linux is an alternative to windows and Mac.
It is becoming increasingly easy to try it out. Simply download a programme for burning iso's (e.g. imageburn) and make a cd of the linux flavour of your choice (thay are discussed at distrowatch.com)
