yes, I use the Free Transform tool quite a bit :)
but frankly, I am not at all satisfied with this effort. there are many glitches.. but anyway, it's a start. got some good tips.. let's see how much I can improve :)
cheers, mate !

The problem with cropping out the rocks is that the shore line becomes to central and balanced and not as interesting visually. But you could use PS to crop the rocks out then "free Transform" the water downwards to increase the area below the shoreline with out worrying about it looking Photoshoped......

Thanks. Many others who saw this are suggesting to crop out the FG rocks. I myself was in doubt about whether to keep them or to crop them out - I think I am convinced now! Also, strange thing that the photo on my laptop monitor looked much more crisp and better illuminated, but on a non-calibrated desktop monitor it seems worse. :(

best,
Avi

Thanks Hugo. Many others who saw this and left a comment are suggesting to crop out the FG rocks. I myself was in doubt about whether to keep them or to crop them out - what do you think ? Also, strange thing that the photo on my calibrated laptop monitor looked much more crisp and better illuminated, but on a non-calibrated desktop monitor it seems worse. Please advise how to tackle this !

I would crop the rocks out, they don't fit in this picture.
I failed on a couple attempts at night photography so in my eye this is pretty good.

I disagree i think this is a so-so picture, crop in a panorama format, rocks on the foreground don't add and correct verticals or on the contray distort even more the buildings for something creative; details are poor as well but this is difficult to analyze in a very compressed small jpg
but....NY skyline is the best on world so you can try it again and again
take care
