About Camels are even-toed ungulates within the genus Camelus. The dromedary, one-humped or Arabian camel has a single hump, and the Bactrian camel has two humps. They are native to the dry desert areas of western Asia, and central and east Asia, respectively.

The average life expectancy of a camel is forty to fifty years. The term camel is also used more broadly to describe any of the six camellike creatures in the family Camelidae: the two true camels, and the four South American camelids, the llama, alpaca, guanaco, and vicuña.

A fully-grown adult camel stands 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) at the shoulder and 2.15 m (7 ft 1 in) at the hump. The hump rises about thirty inches (75 cm) out of its body. Camels can run up to 65 km/h (40 mph) in short bursts and sustain speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph).

Camels do not store water in their humps as is commonly believed; the humps are actually a reservoir of fatty tissue. When this tissue is metabolized, it acts as a source of energy, and would yield more than 1 g of water for each 1 g of fat converted through reaction with oxygen from air. This process of fat metabolization generates a net loss of water through respiration for the oxygen required to convert the fat.

I passed this one this morning, had to go back and
have a close....very close look at it:)

I saw on discovery or national geographic 2 motorists making a tour from London or so to south africa by road. I have seen them pass Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia. Wonderful, I recognised the atmosphere your photos very well, e.g the spirit of Sudan which is much much different as in ethiopia.
Somewhere it said this is the only road to S.A. so I saw you driving there as well ! ( in my fantasy )

Hi Jen, so sorry for your loss. I just got back from a memorial service for a friend i lost to brain cancer this week. He had fought it for 3 years. I share you loss. Glad that you were able to make a sale for you work, I took some senior pictures for a young man yesterday and met with him and parents last evening to pick through the images. Loaded about 30 on a disc this AM for them to go through and decide. Had a wonderful time. A delightful experience..My heart is with you on the loss!
Be well, Stan

I was amazed to meet this guy in Holland and in such a small place, saw it too late and went back,
had to put my camera on it, even without the
feeling of being abroad!
Have you ever been on one of these?
Lots of warm hugs, hope your storm is gone,
jenxx

Thank you dear Paul, well it did open its eye for a moment looking my way, so I was lucky really:)
To get two at the same was more a problem, think
I made him restless somehow....:)
I will try to sleep well, as I lost a very good friend today, making me sick inside, can never
get used to this way of nature...:(
Departure is Wednesday, still have to pack,
collecting all dutch food, dropjes, kaas, sambal, ketjap, pindakaas en uiteraard hagelslag...:))
Did you enjoy your weekend, hoping you had a relaxt 2 days, hugs Jen

Razor sharp eye dear Jen,
keep it open as good as you can and don't forget we have even two of them. Two is better than one.
If a very "close" look at it, sleep well with closed eyes please :-) Enjoy your weekend + week if departure.
hugs, Paul
