About This amazing cathedral was commissioned by Ivan the Terrible to commemorate his victory over the Tartar Mongols in 1552. It's real name is "The Cathedral of the Intercession of the Virgin on the Moat," however the Russian people insisted on calling it "St. Basil's" after Saint Basil the Blessed (AKA the "holy fool") who was extremely popular at the time. It is one of the most photographed buildings in the known universe - I must have come back with hundreds of pictures of it J This turned out to be one of my favorites.

Actual exposure f/2.8 @ 1/3 sec ISO unknown. I used a Gorillapod tripod. It was interesting laying on my belly in Red Square at night with the military people just behind me. I was told they were pointing at me. Hey! anything to get the shot - right?

Hi Jim. I've seen this place myself (no photos of St Basil's unfortunately) and this is a very good image (Moscow is full of wonderful architecture, although the history behind some of it is rather grim). This image is very sharp and has excellent colours. Well done.

Fabulous night exposure! Russia? You sure do get around!

How are you liking that 40D? Mine already needs to go back because of hot pixels... and I see you shoot with the Tamron 18-250 too... my main lens, though it had managed to get dust inside it.

In fact military people dont care much about photographers at Red Square. It's police and plainclothes men that are a nuisance for photo hobbyists. I was surprised they let you use a tripod there. Mostly they forbid such activity. Tripod is a no-no there. And big lenses!

Congrats on a good shot. Valerij
