About Flying Dutchman, according to folklore, is a ghost ship that can never go home, and is doomed to sail the oceans forever. The Flying Dutchman is usually spotted from afar, sometimes seen to be glowing with ghostly light. It is said that if she is hailed by another ship, her crew will often try to send messages to land or to people long since dead. In ocean lore, the sight of this phantom ship is reckoned by seafarers to be a portent of doom.

The Prins Willem was the largest ship at the time of the Dutch East India Company (the VOC). It was built in 1649 in Middelburg in the Netherlands and sank near Madagaskar in 1662.

Curiously, the name on the ship was Prins Willim. Two reasons have been mentioned for this. One being that that is Middle Dutch, the other that there wasn't enough space for the name, so they changed the 'e' to an 'i', which is shorter.

A replica has been built under the same name. It was built at shipyard Amels in Makkum (Netherlands) for the Oranda Mura (Holland Village) themepark in Nagasaki, Japan. Since 2004, she is part of the themepark Cape Holland in Den Helder, the Netherlands. At the moment, the Prins Willem bowsprit is being restored.

The Dutch East India Company (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie or VOC in old-spelling Dutch, literally "United East Indian Company") was established in 1602, when the States-General of the Netherlands granted it a 21-year monopoly to carry out colonial activities in Asia. It was the first multinational corporation in the world and the first company to issue stock. In addition, the VOC possessed quasi-governmental powers, including the ability to wage war, negotiate treaties, coin money, and establish colonies.

I just closed my eyes and imagined myself seating on the lawn near the Eiffel tower, having some wine and cheese...ahhhhh I would love that more than anything right now.
Have a wonderful weekend my dear friend.

My dear Julie, I thank you so much for your appreciation and kind remarks. I just made a posting to Ania about some improvement I noticed later today. But about you, I have to say I cannot improve your architectural view anymore as well as only expressing my admiration for your capturing of better lines, scale effects and reflections the principal architects even never noticed,
hugs and kisses from your beloved Paris, Paul

Dear Ania, later today I looked at my pic again and I felt unhappy with another detail nobody said to me. (I think that some sharp but polite eyes have probably noticed)
Although you did not say either you gave me a valuable hint how I could still improve its display. It is my self criticism and eager to teach and learn telling afterward. I do not like to hide these things.
Both left and right sides need a very little cropping for a perfect balance. A remaining disturbing dark triangle at left and a very little of the gate at right should have been removed. Next time I do better. Hugs, kiss and good night Ania.

Thank you very much dear Ania for your appreciation and constructive remark. I am explaining what was my reason not to crop too much at the right hand side. Honestly I considered this in post processing, just what you noticed. What I finally did was some tilting and related cropping, giving the ship some more attention but I decided also to show somewhat of "real world context" by the blue texture gates. If cropped away I wouldn't have been happy with the building facade and reflections only.
I show you my starting point capture in the attachment.

I also appreciate so much your comment as it tells me about perception and creative decisions so I'm learning much from this. Thanks once more.
Je t'embrasse , Paul

Thank you dear Teresa, I feel honored to mirror myself to you. You are the absolute master in mirror reflections I saw that today. I'm admiring your great power of observation and capturing the sky with remaining feet on the ground. Thank you so much for sharing. Big hugs and kisses, Paul
