The man standing there, waiting for the bus, did prodide some point of standstill in all the quick motion of the city. I tried to put as much emphasis on him as possible, which I have the impression was partially reached. Still I think that some more exposure would enhance him more. I'd be glad for any comments.
Thanks a lot for the in depth going and so detailed comment, Joggie! It was exactly that kind of "getting lost between others in the city" you referred to, that flowed into my intention. And your more exact look really found that out.
I have the impression, still, that I just retry something similar. I would like to give such a waiting person much more emphasis for allowing it to dominate the image. So let's see what this may take me to.
The other side is out of focus, since I limited my DoF only around the man. I don't know if making the DoF larger would still keep the absolute emphasis on the man. Another interesting thing to try out!
Hi Saad and thanks a lot for the close look on the image!
I see also that kind of grain on the man's jacket behind him. I think it appears because the surface of the jacket had some kind of small pattern on it, which just started burning on the film but didn't burn completely clearly. So, some more exposure might cure that, though I am a bit clueless about what I could do against it at shooting time.
If the woman was standing closer I would surely take her as the representant for "waiting for the bus". The man has another appearance, which goes more in the direction of "lost by himself", that is with as little additional things as possible. Both of them are good ones for me, and so my choise was governed by the available scene. But your idea makes me think of going there again and waiting until somebody looking like the woman stands at the position of the man. This will be interesting to try.
Hi Nick, as you would know by now, I usually prefer a tighter crop to zoom in closer on the subject. in this case the man waiting for the bus. It often helps to look a second or third time at a photo to allow it to speak to you (With little time available we often haste to give a quick comment), which I did. The coice of standing back allowed you to get in more of the bustling activity which remains one of the main elements, leading from the foreground to way past the man. The direction of movement also confirms his awaiting of the bus from that direction. This is further enhanced by the walking pedestrians, almost blending with the rest of the image. My overall impression is one of man getting lost (small in photo)in frantic activity and further surrounded by boandaries he placed around himself. Thanks for uploading, regardless of the technical problems with the photo, a thought-provoking one! Joggie
Hi dear Nick, about the subject of the photo, for me its perfect as in any city of the world there is something or someone stand still, and the rest are in some degree of motion, which is great and well done in this photo, about the photo per se,there is a visible noise starting from the man backwards, the other side of the street is out of focus as I see it,the man or woman just beyond the waiting man give the same attitude of the waiting man,in my opinion he or she is better than the waitin man to concentrate on because the bag and lougage he or she tightly held in his or her hands ,my regards, Saad
