Yes, i know all hard things about this capture dear Stan, but you know it's indee one of your best photographs in the portfolio.
with the wind can not shoot it at all, using high shutter speed (in the windy weather) dosn't help to have good contrast and saturation as this artistic photo needs.
so, i think you must wait for a better weather and using trypod to capture what you want.

Kiarang, they weater has been hot and I lost my chance to repeat the shot as soon as I should have. My day job got in the way. My focus was off a little and this was shot in the wind. More challenging at a slower shutter speed. I will still hear your suggestions with all ears. thanks Stan Shot at 1/50,f29,ISO200,214mm zoom.

Thanks Kiarang, the day I shot this I had a telephoto set up for trying to capture a Black Headed Grosbeak in my yard. I had been shooting at 400 for the birds and dropped to 200 because I was shooting hand held. I will try low shutter speed, sunny day, tripod and Iso 100 f11-16 and will post the picture in these comments. Thanks again, Stan

Peter, I had second thoughts before I posted it and then said to myself, Dude go big or go home. So I put it out and took my chances. The original shot was on a very overcast day and the picture was pretty lifeless, but I really liked the shapes and detail of the reminders of the poppies. Just on the road to find out. We have a short spring and summer so the flowers are part of my life blood for the short time they are displaying there beauty. I can not keep my eyes off of them or my camera in the bag. I have been trying something different almost daily to become more familiar with processing and actual captures with my new camera.

At first i had a doubt, but i returned for a second look, and now i think your postprocessing is very good as to the colours which all match well together, and match with the subject (poppies) .. you brought them back alive  .. also the selective desaturation is a plus .. i looked at the original too, and i must say you made it much more thrilling !

Very nice and delicate:
as an experimental work in saturaion of the colours,
but there are a lot of tectures that have missed in this high saturaion mode.specially in upper half part of the image.
