About Chiapas girl, chiapas, 2001, Mexico.
It is a very poor region in Mexico with mainly original inhabitants. Against their belief they do allow to make pictures of the kids in exchange for money.

We can't know whose cloths they are, Harry. We can't know how she came to have them on, if it was a necessary thing to do for hoping for a bit more of that god just in order to stay alive.

Many times the "philantropy" of the unaware tourist seems to be selective for the more "presentable" poor. And many times the awareness of the poor seem to discover that more coins are rolling when they seem more "sympathetic" to the tourists by being dressed "better".

Many will start naming the tactics of "raising sympathies" just a cheat. Well, I name it very good way to regain some of the money that we are thieving from them each and every day. In other worlds: We cheat them, they cheat us. That's good!

Cheers!

Nick

In this poor area she is dressed like the upper class: white sweater, the designerbag, chain to her wallet/keys.

And about God, I knew it, it had to be money ....
hahahahahahah

It could have more definition and sharpness of the girl itself over a less focused background, Harry. This would be the "usual" way. But this one takes another point of view than the "usual" way. It had a very good timing and that timing combined with the rather "aged" look brings out a very authentic atmosphere. The great difference of luminance between her white pillover and the background adds a good portion of tension too - much like putting a spotlight on the girl.

About belief... sigh! In case of real hunger the only god is some coins for something eatable. And perhaps this would be different if there would be no idea of any god over the world.

Cheers!

Nick

Wonderful to get so close to their origin and their roots. It must have been special feeling Harry and experience.
Against their belief they did allow their kids to pose in exchange for some money ... story telling portrait made with good old Minolta as I see.
Yeah, it is also so realistic and like I was there ... and her eyes and her facial expression tells again more than 1000 words (even without your about dear Harry).
So very successful and dramatic indeed.
Powerful and full of emotion, impressive and expressive.
Excellent Harry !!!
Hugs,
Srna

They had a mixed cathilic/local religion church. It was not allowed to photograph but it was heaven for a good Nikon/Cannon . Wonderfil to get so close to their origin, roots.
This pfoto is made with a 20 year old minolta and good old agfa ct slidefilm ....

very nice portraits... generaly portraits are good however when the photographer can take a photo from a very special area of our world, with unique people and clothes style, I mean with traditional elements the result is even better, and that photo is a very good try on that way.
be well!
