What? Your tripod had the time to get dust? Now, now, Julie!!! ;-)

You have the "power" to leave me speechless with your comments dear Anson. Your choice of words just blows me away. I am going to try a few things with this again so I will rotate a bit more to see what I get. Thank you so much for always making me smile with your comments dear Anson.
Big hug,
Julie.

That's a good idea Nick. I always shoot on full manual but I can try aperture priority and set it to f/16 and see what will happen. Will dust off my tripod just to do this for you my friend :)
Thank you so much for the continued feedback Nick. I really appreciate it!

Best,
Julie.

Simplicity personified, Julie, yet this image has so much to tell. Almost a "ying" and "yang" presentation here, with the lower wire structure very well defined, sharp, shiny, and hard in appearance. In contrast the top wire structure, is ethereal, transparent, diffuse and ill-defined. Yet, they are both part of the same being, seemingly contradictory to each other, like we humans are, sometimes hard, sometimes soft, sometimes cold, sometimes warm. I like the use of what some teachers call "negative space" which pulls the eye to the steel instrument. Beautifully done in composition and lighting; maybe just a little bit more rotation so as not to appear so "squared off". Maybe your best image, dear Julie. Two hugs. Anson

I see! I'd say, just go for manually mastering the camera/lens. It's less comfortable but more powerful at the end.

About the Sigma, from what I see in the web it can go down to f/22 which alloes amuch deeper DoF at the expense of less light and thus longer exposure times. The 2.8-4.5 range is for maximum light but also minimum DoF, which in this case wouldn't suffice for good details over the whole distance range (I guess).

What if you just manually set, say, f/16 and let the camera's brain decide about exposure speed? Is that possible?

Cheers!

Nick

Hey Nick,

Yes I agree, I want to get one. The problem also is because my camera body is a starter model I am limited to lenses that will work AF and I haven't really started using MF yet.

This sigma at 70mm allows 4.2 which isn't great but for now will have to do ;)

Thank you for your help Nick, you rock!!!

Julie.

Hi Julie!

I really see what you mean! For whatever reason they made each and every thing we need expensive. It's expensive, expensiver, expensivest!!! And unfortunately even photographers have to eat once in a while! ;-)

Still a good idea to get a better macro lens. Wish you the fastest possible money saving and then all fun of the world! And a huge number of family members willing to help ;-)

BTW, for more DoF you would need a narrower apperture. What is the minimum that your lens allows now, if I may ask?

Cheers!

Nick

Hey Nick, I am glad to see your comment.
I wish my "little" sigma allowed me to use a wider apperture at the focal lenght I shot this. I am saving to get a prime macro lens (1.8f). I can't wait to get that baby :)

Thank you so much for stopping by.

Best always,
Julie.

Very very very good high hey here, Julie, and I guess that it would be even better of the dissloving metal sticks on the top half would retain the "hardness" and metalic look of the metal ring and the parts of the sticks right underneath it. Since it is is a great design, perhaps you could retry that with a wider DoF?

But still the design is an eye catcher! The white background really matches the metal reflection of light. Simple and efficient!

Cheers!

Nick
