About Detail of one of the rockfaces shown in the previous uploads.

During fieldwork last year (2007) I spent quite a while in the Karoo and never had the time to really do anything with the photos I took. This is one of a series which I will update over time. As in the Karoo itself, one needs space and time to contemplate on its expanse, beauty and impact on yourselve. So I would like to introduce you slowly over time to one of the most captivating areas of South Africa - so often overlooked by tourism in favour of the dramatic and immediate splendour of so many other beautiful sights here. The beauty of the Karoo lies deeper than the skin - it needs time spent there to appreciate the vast expanses, the colours, natural textures and contrasts and even more the people.
The Karoo grows on you as you spend time there, I just hope my photographs can do some justice to the place.

Dear Joggie...:) I have just seen your larger version, Kooroo 8... This one is my love... In close, just a small part of the *big picture* so to speak... The magic of colour & texture that tugs the eye & speaks to the heart... Life, practical & strong, adding lacy contrast, surviving on the meagre sustenance available...

Well framed Sir, the rock faces like old *totems* staring into the history yet to come...

Excellent...:)

Onie...

Hello dear Joggie, I was hoping you would reply on my terrible questions and comments, I have another question again...:)) Hoping you dont mind.... I cant find the name of this little creature in the Little Karoo, one of my last photo's being this Igiana I cannot find in any books or inet again..would make me very happy if you could help me out again with this:)) I did see some Iguana's in the caribbean, also these big ones but they looked very different! As you seem to know so much about this area, you might know this one as well...really hope so!!

This photo of you looks amazing, like iron rocks, the shape is wonderful!! I am very happy you share these shots with us, and I am still very interested in meeting you and showing me some of the beauty around George or PE, my email address is jenvanw@hotmail.com hoping you are well, thanks a lot! Regards Jenxx
