I find all the IR photos prior and including the Cracker farmhouse to contain less image noise

This is the fourth image I have posted in the IR category using the Hoya R72 filter. Do the three previous to this one look OK? Images before this set were taken with the Cokin 007, which is also supposed to be equivalent to the Kodak Wratten 89b, but isn't. Thanks for letting me know about this image, though, Daniel. One thing I did differently here was to partially desaturate it manually in PS. Anson

No it's definately not distracting or anything I was just a little suprised because of a number of reasons. Normally image noise is introduced when the sensor gets a little warm. At first I thought this must have been a long shutter which you would expect more image noise, but it wasn't at all, and secondly a lot of you other IR shots seem fine

Thanks so much for the nice comment about the subject and the tones here, Daniel. As for the increased noise, all I can do is attribute it to the fact that the sensor was not primarily designed to capture low IR radiation. I see this enhanced noise on any IR I have done, wheter it was done with the Fuji E550, the Canon 300D, or this Fuji S9000. So it is not just a Fuji or a filter problem. For my purposes I do not find it objectionable, though. Others may disagree. Anson

Wow, very interesting capture, I love the shades you have captured. I am a bit supprised with the image noise at ISO 80 though.

The Fujifilm S9000 camera is one of my favorites, Radu, and does quite well as an IR camera. One nice thing about the digicams like the S9000 is that the viewfinder works quite well for IR images, Radu. However, as all S9000 owners know, who have tried IR imaging, the lens does have some hot spots in the center depending upon what focal length and aperture combinations you use. Also, the manual focussing is not very good at all, althought the autofocus works quite good for IR. Your Olympus E-volt takes gorgeous images, Radu but I don't know anything about its IR capability. Sadly, the better Canon cameras simply don't pass enough IR radiation to be usable without modification. Regards, and you have a great portfolio, Radu. Anson

The camera you use needs to be IR capable, even without having to be modified, and your Nikon certainly is, dear Julie. Depending upon what colors, if any, you want to dominate your image, you need to mate an appropriate IR filter to its lens. A Hoya R72 seems to work very well for me on both my Fuji and Canon cameras. Some cameras simply don't pass enough IR radiation through the "hot mirror", which is mounted in front of the sensor, to take IR images. Thanks for the nice oomment, and I will be happy to help you with the PS workup of the final image. Hugs from FL. Anson

Another beautiful IR shot. I did consider getting the S9000 at some point just for its IR capabilities; your beautiful IR photos clearly show that I should have gotten it.

What a beautiful house dear Anson. I love how you placed it within your frame. IR is really interesting to me, I have to read up on it and understand how it gets done just using a filter... Big hug, Julie.
