About Catch it while you can. If the port authority gets its way, all this will be destroyed to make way for eight new ferry berths. C'mon guys, there's a good reason why Tarifa was not developed as a major port by the Phoenicians, the Romans, the Moors or by anyone else who passed this way - it's WINDY here, and wind and ships do not work well together.

As usual, serious critiques welcome!

Well, thanks for that in-depth critique, Doyle. You've been missed around here yourself. As to the fat white stuff, you probably know that I've always had an issue with borders! Always going to be a tricky one, but I'm definitely going through a fat white phase, so I'm afraid it stays...

AJ

PS. Oh, and thanks for giving me something to Google - now I know what "picayune" is!

As much as I miss picking your compositions apart and delighting in finding some slight, picayune way in which they can be improved . . . I'll need, I guess to wait a tad more. I love this composition. Strong horizontal lines and strong diagonals intersecting and the star of the show sitting wonderful off to the lower left really does draw the eye.

The detail and structure of that building make a great subject and the golden hues suggest the perfect 'Golden hour' . . . I like this time for the golden hue, but more so for the definition I can get with the lengthening shadows. You have sun behind and right so you missed out on some of that delineation . . . though I'm guessing you shot this from an elevated position. Nothing can be done about the sunlight angle (without a ship) . . . and the end result is spot-on!

Damn good to see you shooting again Mate . . . that Sigma glass did a good job for you on this one.

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Oh! SNAP! Got it! You COULD have improved this by cutting out that fat white border so we could get a better gander at the actual shot. 1 or 2 mm black would have sufficed. I'm just sayin'

Doing business in Cairo for taxis? Thats quite odd as well, you want them to come to Spain...loll Hope you finished your report in the meantime, so you can celebrate some weekend!

Its very sad this building cant be saved, I saw a lot of this kind of buildings in Ireland last week, all these castles and churches falling apart, as you see one 3 days ago, jut amazing! We should be careful with these precious past pieces of civilisation! Be well and dont work too hard;)) xxJen

Thanks Nicole. You wouldn't know from the picture that I was actually struggling to stay standing upright - this was taken during a huge levante wind that had already been blowing solidly for two weeks...

Thanks John! I guess they might have found insurance hard to obtain in this location - perhaps the reason for the state of disrepair!

Thanks Dave. Your comment is spot on - I've taken many shots of this location over the years, but it was the light on this occasion that made this one a little different.

Hi Jen! Yes, I'm really back, though with not much time to play with at present as I now have to write up my report. Doubt there'll be any pictures of Egypt - I took a few, but mostly of taxis! (They were my reason for being there...)

This building is just 500m along the coast from the town, and the coast beyond is wild and deserted. But such things seem to have little value round here.

Thanks Txules. This was a stormy day, but the evening sun came out just for a short while, creating this golden light.

Very nice one AJ, nice gold color from the sunlight and impressive ruined building...so closed to the cliff and to the sea! surely that is an impressive land-seascape.
best regards!

Finally a new one!! You're really back again;) Did you make any shots in Egypt? It would be terrible if something precious like this ancient house would be destroyed..probably nothing you can do about, just keep these great memories....sleep well xxJen
