They're wonderful creatures - difficult to think of them as having anything other than 'human' feelings. I saw some in Chiang Mai Zoo a couple of years ago and could have watched them all day!

Thanks so much, Sam. I had to wait for this one, he kept putting the bamboo in front of his face. But I finally got a good one. Thanks for your encouragement.

Thanks so much for your kind word about my panda photo -- I had quite a few with the bamboo right in front of his face, so it was nice of him to let me get one photo with his face in the clear.
All the best.

Hello Maryanne, nice to meet you here, and thank you for your kind comment on my beach series!!
I love this image, he is almost too big to be called adorable but that's what he is. I like the soft appearing background and the colors. You got a nice angle in his pose and such a relaxed and interesting view with him chewing on the bamboo. I know how difficult it is to get good shots at the zoos, so many barriers including people, but you did a great job with this!! The best to you!! :)

Thanks very much Vandy. Actually, I had nothing to do with the sky in the background -- it's painted on the walls of the enclosure -- it's supposed to make the pandas feel at home, but I don't think they're fooled by it ;-).
Thanks for commenting.

Well, I have said that the limitation on the quantity of what I can upload may actually improve the overall quality -- but I agree, it's annoying. Thanks for your help -- on behalf of us both.

Nah, if he were a painting, he would be cleaner. This guy's been rolling around in the dirt all afternoon -- now that's realism.
So glad you like it, Nicole.

Well, that's always the way, isn't it? It looks like I'm in the same boat as you VERY soon. Even though I too am paid and with receipt . . . I was give my 48 hour notice before expiration. VERY annoying that I cannot seem to contact ANY of them, even at personal e-mails. They have been very good at giving credit for lost time . . . but annoyance sets it . . . :)

Hi Doyle. Thanks for your kind words regarding my panda photo. I'm still having problems getting the photo framed the way I'd like -- mostly problems overcoming adverse field conditions. In this case, people crowding in front and blocking my shot. It's really pretty funny because if the panda moves from one part of the habitat to another, a whole crowd of people run to catch up with it. There are three of them (pandas) and they are very popular. But I'll pay more attention to my framing on my next visit.
Thanks for your attempts to help with my donor issue. I do appreciate it.
All the best to you,
Maryanne

Thanks so much Sam. I think the background fools the eye in a photograph, but I think the pandas aren't fooled by it ;-).

Excellent work Maryanne! I like the DOF you used in conjunction with the painted BG . . . makes for a surreal, storybook look. The lower crop seems a tad too tight . . . but the image overall still looks VERY cool!

PS: I see the Donor issue is not yet resolved . . . :( Looks like I may soon be in the same boat as you too . . . I will make the rounds yet again!

Hi Michele, thanks so much for your comment. I'm not sure what the panda is sitting on, but since this is a somewhat artificial habitat, painted to look like the misty mountains of China, perhaps they gave him a cushion to encourage him to sit there. It makes a nice backdrop for photos, but I don't think the pandas are really fooled by it. ;-).
Thanks, as always, for your encouragement.

Thanks John. The good news is that there are conservation efforts underway in China that are meeting with a fair degree of success. There's lots of information about the conservation program on the website of the National Zoo in Washington, DC. Part of the agreement with the Chinese conservation group that has loaned these pandas to the National Zoo involves support of panda conservation efforts in China. Since visiting the National Zoo last week, I periodically visit the zoo's website where they have a "Panda cam."
Anyway, thanks for your kinds words about this photo.
All the best,
Maryanne

I want to go to the ZOO soo bad ..wow this is a great shot and you did wonderful with the BG... Super clarity , and timming-- what I am wondering is what besides the rocks is this wonderful panda sitting on (??) Like a soft purse or book maybe (hah!!)) maybe it is another flat piece of rock but it does look very comfortable - Lovely shot Maryanne -Yep the more I look it must be a flat rock .. Michele~
PS If I have sent this message already please forgive me as I got interrupted and feel it's better to send twice than not at all :))
