Superb shot Joe,
We have some of these guys around the SF Bay Area, but they are very difficult to find.

Great catch Joe... I stalked a family of these guys and only managed to get off a half roll from a great distance a couple of summers ago. Beautiful detail... How'd you manage to get so close?

One of my fav birds ! Good capture with excellent detail, I see you used the 300 mm cannon ;-) Still you must have been relative close. "tsik" meaning well done in woodpecker language.
