Thankyou Gary

On Friday night my children and myself went to see my Dad on one of our regular visits. When we arrived they'd started there weekly bingo game. My Dad shouts the numbers then afterwards sings songs, He has always been a good singer and to be honest, he's a star in the home. The staff absolutely love hime as he tells them great stories about his childhood and the war etc. He's also very funny but seconds after singing or storytelling, he's forgot everything he's just talked about which is very sad..

My dad is the last of his kind and I could probably write a book about him, in fact one of the managers in the home did her thesis on him for her degree. I jokingly tell my kids to watch the film Goodfellas to get an idea of my Father in his younger days ;)

When I took this photo, he had been singing along to a Scottish CD that Louise had brought in for him and I decided to start taking docu style photo's of my dad. I've took many more since and will probably post more on Usefilm

Regards

Barrie

This is such a soft and sympathetic image and if you hadn't told us he is an Alzheimer's sufferer of course we wouldn't have known. The black and white gives this image a very homely feel. I sometimes work with Alzheimers patients (for medical research) and have long thought of a photographic project using dementia as the theme but I've never started it as I've always considered it too difficult to depict sufferers without an element of voyeurism. And of course there's the question of consent. I guess your image shows that it can be done, at least within family.
Regards to you both, Gary
