Thanks AJ -- What an imagination you have! I posted a comment at the top of this picture showing the un-cropped view of wood "in situ". I think they might be tire chocks for fire trucks...not really sure but that is my best guess.

First glimpse suggested flamenco dresses, second glimpse pencil shavings. Third time I'm looking in more detail, and still don't know what it is! Nicely cropped to produce this composition.

Stilts? I case they are short of ladders?!!! Made from that very new and amazingly fire-proof material called wood!

Thanks, Liz. I am guessing that these blocks with cloth strap handles may be used to chock the tires on fire trucks to keep them from rolling.
However, that is just a guess.
