Steve...I knew I had seen a shot just like this before...and now I remember where...There is a man named Mark Hemmings from Saint John New Brunswick who has a shot just like this one here...It won 3rd prize in category two.... ~Nature's Universe~. This contest was from a magazine called PhotoLife. www.photolife.com Mark's shot looks soooo much like yours you may want to have a look...or I can scan you the picture and email it to you if you like....As for you shot here...Looks great!

Steve those closed eyes, the tonal range and that reflection made this a striking image. But to do that is necessary a veeery open eye behind the cam. :0)

This is just beautiful. It looks to me that she is not blinking, but closing her eyes and relaxing, enjoying the warmth that the spring provides. I love the reflection, the cool colours, everything! Well done.

Chris, the monkeys started going into the hot springs pool sometime in the early 60's. I'm guessing that the pool was originally constructed for people, and as the monkeys started to come in, and their population grew, the pool was left for the monkeys. It is a natural hot spring, but it is piped into the pool (and other pools in a ryokan nearby, where people enjoy the hot water).

I'm a day late and a dollar short but let me add my compliments. One hell of a shot Steve! Just curious though....it looks like it's cold out there and he is setting in the water...is it naturally heated or is he just a tough monkey?

she must have been in the water for a while because looks at the perfect reflection! no ruffles or anything. her expression and the look of "ice" on her face makes this picture great.

Sai, one of the park rangers there keeps records on the monkeys. (it's a park for the monkeys) Mr. Sogo Hara has been working in the park for 30 years. He speaks fairly good English, and enjoys telling those who are interested about the macaques.

Well, I personally would have had the model comb her hair first, and too bad she was blinking. But other than that I guess this is a halfway decent shot.
