About The shiny burrowing scorpion (Opistophthalmus glabrifrons - 5 cm in length). The large pinchers (and a thin tail - not shown) is an indication that it is not highly venomous. A scorpion sting is very painful and stays painful for a long time - 24hours or more, heavy swelling may occur and in the case of the highly venomous types (Bhutidae - small pinchers and a thick tail), high fever, vomiting, respiratory problems, stomach pain and cramps may occur - it is especially old people and young children who are vulnerable. Medical attention is needed as soon as possible. In severe cases, death can occur, although very seldom. Makes sickle shaped tunnels in soft soil and underneath flat rocks.

Hi Dave - yes it is relative, A scorpion sting is very painful and stays painful for a long time - 24hours or more, heavy swelling may occur and in the case of the highly venomous types (Bhutidae - small pinchers and a thick tail), high fever, vomiting, respiratory problems, stomach pain and cramps may occur - it is especially old people and young children who are vulnerable. Not "highly" venomous? Oh well, that's alright then...

Detail is wonderful - I want one of these lenses!

Well done macro, Joggie! Is "highly venomous" a relative term? Great details and textures, too!
Dave.
