Thanks Gyorgy, recently in your country it was a Gold Medal Fiap, in an internationa photo contest.- I agree about the surrealistic style.- Again your comments are kindless.- LUIS

Well, Luis, the simple truth is that we have too many oneliners like "well done" here in UF. This is the best hint towards lacking of real interest of most people to study with care the subjects of photography and to really exchange minds. So most of the time we are all happy tapping on each other's shoulders! ;-)

Your series about tango is really fascinating to me, not because of the dancing itself (I hate tango!) but rather because you embed it in not so usual scenes that add a note of "unreal" look.

As about "magic", "enchanting", and all the rest, I rather take a much more detached and profan point of view. I don't care about "magic". I am more into the perhaps more silent and also more observing case in order to be able to see also the technical details that are quite ignored many times. So for example, your series invites to such a careful study and learning from what you do. Without that techique no "magic" is possible.

Your way to use photoshop is indeed photography at its best, though most people think that taking just a photo and altering it beyond recognition by randomly using 3.5 thousands filters delivers "arts". (Too much "magic" again? ;-)) But what you do is composing, constructing, creating a scene with content, which is creative photographic work in the best sense of the word.

I asked you about your techniques because though the images of the series look quite natural, if I look a bit more closer, I realize that there are some tiny details that are not absolutely perfect. They do not affect the excellent impression, but they made me ask myself if you used imaging software exactly *because* the images look as if they were only taken by the camera.

For example on this image, if one looks very very carefully, one can see that the feet of the girl are in a position that suggests some kind of hovering - not really touching the ground, if one looks very concentrated. The plane of her soles and the plain of the pavement are not exactly parallel. Then we also see that a shadow is missing in the foreground - two dancers and one shadow. Again, this doesn't affect the excellent image! It only made me assume that you used PS in a very professional way.

So perhaps you can tell us how you cut&paste and the like?

All the best,

Nick

Dear Nick..this is a comment, not only "well done.." and other short words...First question, you have a good eye, not only by the description that you do, also in your images, really net, in a freedom style, contemporary.- My tango images are from a series TANGO ALLEYS, and they are imaginary small streets (alleys) of my city Buenos Aires (Argentina) I say imaginary because I construct the buildings, and the houses, and of course the cobble stones, the couple this an other was captured at tango festivals in some stage or in studio.-All the image is fiction...But my dear friend that the "ENCHANT" of the art, is like a magician who makes a show...When he speak you hear and your eyes are in all the attention...If you discover the trip...the magic is in the end...Here is the same thing...I feel that you understand my poor english.- And about details...of PS edition (your want the tips and trips)...NO PROBLEM.-
I can tell you all...really all at the level of my poor english, I've not any secret...The secret is the creation and the imagination...

But...is this photography...? YES IS THE reply.- my WARMEST regards.- LUIS

Your whole work is quite impressive, Luis, and so it is hard for me to chose some image for a comment. I'll have to return often to your place for learing from your work!

This one amazes me through its depth and geometry, its twofold pattern repetition (cobble stones and dancing pair in the foreground and in the background) and its rich color contrast between the almost uniform greys of the stree/city and the colorful dancers.

All this gets enhanced tremendously by the excellent sharpness and DoF, but I think that the perpective and geometry are the main elements here, that create a scene in which the actors can act as protagonists. When I imagine the two dancers in the foreground on a rather flat scene, the hypothetical image loses much of its interest. But here there is that strong sense of the 3rd dimension that in combination with the leading lines suggests distance and depth.

Great work about which I would like to ask you if you could tell some more details about how you achieved that. (PS work?)

Nick

Mark...dear friend..your comments are really kindles with me, thanks...and about a best Tango image...well my dear for me is great.-

I'm sorry but you was in Buenos Aires sometime...? I don't remember...?

Is just how you said, the right wall is from San Telmo and the left, is in other neighborhood La Boca, a harbour zone... also really wonder

I do the alley with four or five layers, and I get the shot of the couples at the theatre...at least a careful detail edition with PS, about the lights and the shadows also the background colours.-
Is interesting how the mind can shows a image a reality image.-

At the end is a photo, yes it's a photo.- I hope you be in Buenos Aires in 2008, you will go with me to San Telmo and many tango shows, also to Photo Club Buenos Aires (one of the biggest in the world) I'm the president.- And about a a cover of a book...well Mark is not a bad idea...for my would be wonderful.- Hugs and we keep in touch.- LUIS

Dear Luis, oh yes, I think it is a photo. It is excellent work how you put all the different elements together. One of the best Tango images I have ever seen. I have been looking a lot at apartments in different areas of BA omn the net (ST, Recoleta, Barrio Norte, Centro, maybe Palermo Soho/Hollywood, etc) and thought the wall on the right did look like the San Telmo neighborhood (plus I've been to parts of it numerous times for Tango Shows + the weekend market in the park). Has such a strong character. I think your shot would be a great cover for a book on BA, it's very good work !!! All the best, hope to be in BA some time in 2008. Mark

GRAN ALEGRIA Y KAPISSIMO ABRAZO Y BESO.- Luis

Dear Mark...yes my friend all the image is constructed in photoshop art, but all the image is photographic...I mean it is a digital collage. The streets were taken in many neighbourhoods, some the right wall and the stones of the floor are San Telmo, and the wall of the right, a harbour of other city.- The street is in my mind, also the lights and the shadows were created..even the colours...Is photo?
Do you think is a photo...? I do...is a discussion, at the end is ART...My best and warms HUGS my friend.- LUIS
