Darn those damned palm trees Doyle…LOL!
Yes I did wonder about removing the garden from her hair… but as I’m only a complete novice with Photoshop I thought I’d better quit while I was ahead. I’m not sure if it would be possible to remove the palm without loosing the feather in her headdress, if anyone can tell me how I’ll have a go... :)
Regards, Meg.

Excellent . . . I like the blown out BG . . . makes one look where they're supposed to and the detail is TOPS! At least in light of your other issues life goes on . . . and there are good things all around to detract us from the not so good things! Since it IS CC I'll point our the dark BG area coming out of the lovely lady's head . . . a minor point . . . but CC means you asked for it! :)

Thank you for taking the time to critique this image Spencer, I appreciate your input and ideas. I did in fact want the effect I got in this shot, I think it directs attention right to the look of love on the grooms face… which is indeed the focal point of the image. As I was not the wedding photographer but simply a guest and grandma of the bride, most of the shots I took were split second decisions with no time to fine tune the settings. The location was in fact a most difficult one even for the seasoned photographers there, it was southern Spain with its brilliant sunlight….but for obvious reasons we were positioned in deep shade. It would have been very rude to have used flash during the ceremony or straight after it while the official photographer we taking shots, but next time I have more control of the situation I shall take your advice in selecting my camera settings. :)

This is an ok shot, but more fill light would have helped in this situation. Especially with the blown out background - there is no need for that! (unless you were intentionally going for a blown out background)
To get this exact same shot with a bit better exposure, do the following: Adjust your exposure for the background Set the Flash as High as it can go (if using a SLR, you would set the flash to +1-+3 ... with the S3 IS ... eh, do what you can) Now adjust your exposure slightly lower (1/2 stop) than it was for the background Take the shot.
What you will get is an image properly exposed for both your subject and the background. You did this by basically lighting up your subject as much as the background was lit up. With the exposure slightly lower, it will provide you with a very saturated image that will have the background not -as- prominent as your focal points.
It is definitely nice, but you loose the edge of the bride due to the blown out areas. Again, expose for the ambience and then just up your flash to match it.

Thanks Michele.... I too believe things happen for a reason, perhaps it's just that the house there I fell in love with is not the right one for us. While we were there this time we went back to the area to look and we decided that it was not the right place and that we will look elswhere. Somewhere there will be a house that's just perfect and waiting for us I'm sure!

Thank you Michele for your lovely comment. No we haven't made it to Spain just yet, this was just a weeks trip to attend our grandaughter Cristina's wedding to Tony. As you know the man buying our house backed out three hours before the contract was signed, that means that our house is back on the market and we can't move until it sells.
I'll let you know when I have any news....
Meg.
