This is just a beautiful shot,
love the pose, the clearity, I must agree with all the comments, my only nit/suggestion is the bit of hotspotting down the critters left side which has caused a small loss of detail in the fur, but still a very super image,

What a funny little guy. Looks like he could be a spokesman for hair care products. We have squirrels that come into our bird feeders, but I've never been successful in capturing them. You've got great DoF, and I like the contrast of the soft fur with the rough tree bark. Very nice capture, Dave.

Well, though those sweet creatures tend to flood any photo album in summer (;-)), this image does not offer much possibility for critiques simply because it is excellently captured. Details, composition, selective focus, lighting... everything is great here.
Your nature photography is indeed much much more than the usual sweet-silly snapshot, Dave. You seem to know thebest moment for pressing the shutter button. Perhaps sending some of your work to appropriate magazines?? I think you could go for it.

Hi Dave,
Yet another excellent image from the S5000 with you in control. That really does put to shame some of the dSLR images I've seen on other forums. The fact that the S5000 only has 3Mp probably counts in it's favour as it actually means more information can be stored on the sensor for each pixel. From what I've learnt recently with regard to the Pentax K100D I got recently, unless the sensor size changes cramming more pixels on, doesn't necessarily mean better Image Quality and I think the S5000 is a case in point. Some of the review for the successors have been a bit disappointing from what I have seen.
I think if you want to get equal quality images but be able to print them to a much larger size a 6mp-8mp dSLR would be the way to go.
I'm hanging on to my S5000 now to keep in the car for when the dSLR is a bit too bulky. :)

Heya, I think I shot his brother a couple weeks ago. With a camera of course. They pose very well, when they are startled. Instead of "deer in the headlights", the saying should go "squirrel in the lens".

Breath taking. From the thumbnail I thought this guy had a mohawk hair style! But he's even more beautiful close up. The lighting is superb.
Not everyone gets to take photos of squirrels, I would have to take a boat a very long way to do that. What a shame they don't live on this island continent, these are such cute critters. I know we have 'cuddly' Koalas, but they are so grumpy and bombed out of their brains on eucalyptus oil. CC
