About This is an old church I shot last winter in the snow and it can be seen in my portfolio. I made a point to return to it at night while on my way to Colorado last week.

I shot this with a 98 second exposure. I used a flashlight to light the bell cupola and cross on the roof as well as the cemetery on the right and the gate/stone wall on the left.

The building itself was lit by passing cars on a nearby highway.

This was my first serious play with my 10-20mm lens, and I was intentionally wanting the distortions given by the lens. I made one bad mistake on this shoot: I had used a 1600 ISO earlier and neglected to change it back to 100 for the night shoot. The result is lots of noise.

One bad thing I do not like about my new lens, there is no auto stop on the focus ring for infinity.

I think it's a beautifully well done image dear Dave.

I like everything about it .....the light especially of course and it doesn't feel spooky at all like at some cemetaries at night...Thanks for sharing and for your 'about'....

Take Care,
Michele~

Excellent night shot with very good quality and amazing result for sooooo long exposure, good wide shape of everything because of the lens you use, very nice!

I do believe it is normal to be tired after driving 4 hours in the middle of the night...lol.

Thank you Shirley... the noise isn't as noticeable in the smaller file but at actual pixels, it is. Next time hopefully I won't be as tired after driving 4 hours in the middle of the night and can think about why the exposure is so short. Then again, yes, the stars did come out great at this ISO.

Thank you, Biljana... I'll be honest, it does get a little spooky at times. Especially if D is out of the truck and he stares off into the darkness like something is going to be jumping out at us... that's when I get spooked.

Oh, I love this...especially all those stars, and because of the higher ISO, they're not streaked, or not so I notice. The noise is not noticable to me either. Great shot, Dave,....I mean, Cap'n...LOL!:)

Nice one, Dave... again, excellent night photography. The noise isn't really visible on my end. I love your work! Thank you again, for explaining the process. I can't wait to try some of this myself.
