Sorry, forgot to say: It wasn't my problem. I just took the shot. I also have a short movie somewhere that has a steel ball bearing running around and around and around and around and around and around in a groove in a front disc brake rotor. It is pretty funny.

Yeah. And I may not recall all the right order, but wasn't that rear bearing, for decades and decades a MNJ 471 AC Delco part number? Or, New Departure Hiatt I believe one of the manufacturors was.

...being a GM alternator I would say that it was rear beaing failure causing the main shaft to run off-centre and thus the fan blades contacted the housing. oh, by the way... you will probably also loose half of the rebuilders core value if you replace with a re-man unit. Hope it did not leave you stranded.
