Yes B/W imagery is really great for accessing if in fact your image has a strong foundation. And can be amazingly powerful in its own right. But being a Painter of color the extra challenge is to convey an emotional context, with good structural content, as well as superb tonal variation. I think it just allows for more expression in the long run for the photographer. It also creates yet another element for the average joe to be enamored with, even if they have no idea why they like what they see. It really comes down to the personal interest of the individual photographer and to whom they are interested in communicating with i guess.

Thanks Tim for such a nice comment! I know what you mean about colour and the emotional response. My initial training was in B&W and it was more than once said when a fellow student tried something in colour that the image was taken "just for the colour," i.e. lacking in compositional and tonal elements which one would expect in a good B&W. That can be a problem with colour photography because the colour sings and perhaps deludes like the sirens' song. While that judgement may be very harsh, I am no longer interested in B&W - I'll take my chances with colour!

I like your composition and the color is stunning. It is so great that we are out of the winter grays and able to find color everywhere at this time. Color, is the heart of emotion and what we as observers respond to. This being the opposite perspective to technical aspects of photography. when combined in a even balanced way allows full spectrum perspective attainable by all.
I get that from this image.
