you really need a tripod, or at lest a pod if you want to make great pictures (I saw people with pods, so I think you won't have any problem with a tripod), I let my tripod in my van and I regret it. Most part of the time, the light was low, so I had to work with high ISO. But the place is really great and I'm sure you won't regret your trip.

Thanks so much, Jacques, for posting Carlsbad pictures. I don't think I've ever seen photos of them since I've been interested in photography. I'm about 4 hours from here and I'll need to get down there. Do you recommend a tripod? How is the light? Or are tripods not allowed?

Very good shot Jacques, the difference of the lighting on the rocks adds a lot and even the reflection is a very nice element here, beautiful photo...difficult to take it, and very ballanced ...even the out area of that gave looks enouph well...a very difficult shot to ballance the exposure too but you manage it well.
