I think these southern winds are quite fascinating for me as a Dane, but for you it might not be that nice! I also didnīt experience the sand like this - I just felt the sudden heat and the wind that took away the furniture and got some sand in my eyes - nothing like this Marsscenery though:-)

Thanks a lot my friend...hehehe not Mars or Venus plants...even it could be like that...at least the color! :-D Samely like Tozz but surely without the tempratures that has...it wasn't a hot day for my place...

It's as if it's a shot from Mars:) Great capture, must have been difficult in that weather. This phenomena is called TOZZ in Kuwait. I know how it is, i've been there;)

Incredible photo, John! I really thought you toned this. Iīve been to your beautiful island twice and one time I encountered these special winds coming from the Sahara where it got extremely hot and everything flew around and I got sand in my eyes.
Thanks for sharing and I hope you didnīt damage your camera:-0

...hmmm yea, every place in the world has its nature...problems...lol...even I think hurricannes gives much more difficulties to the people... that is a friendly touch in the back...ok...we have earthquakes...I think more than your west coast! :-D
lol...at least in hurricannes you don't affread to loss your camera...the wind takes you and your camera bothly away! hahahahaha....kidding ofcaurse! ...and as you say, yes, when you get the magic eye, yes, I (and I think everybody) don't have into our mines any idea about the damage we can do to our cameras...lol...only when we pay the new one! :-DDDDD

I can't even imagine what it is like John... I do worry for my camera when the winds are high as we do get hurricannes here on the coast in winter time---- and in summer sometimes 50 mile per hr. winds also... It would ruin my camera but I think you are saying in time it is so infiltrated thru out all the air - it is not concentrated anywhere to do camera damage (?))
I will read your comments tho and find them very interesting I am sure :))

...well after lot of time the lens works well...so the camera... I have some filters from my old Olympus C-5050 that does not works with my lenses...only on Canon 18-50 that is enouph small to take them....but here I don't use any kind of filter or PSing...and I don't remember the color temprature I had but mostly I use middle tempratures, like 6.500k or even 7.000k so the colors looks more natural and so that you see is not saturated... in other photos I have increase the temprature even at 10.000k that is the top of Canon 20D....just I had a bit more yellow result, not orange but still samely deep color...as also our eyes watch... lol...you outthere US don't have a sahara at your backs...hahahahaha...take a look to the comments of some people that know about that weather....believe me, some times the sand can go even to Austria and all Italy...but ofcaurse the medditeranian coasts takes lot of sand...and Creta is an island at the middle of Medditeranian sea, Sahara must be at about 400 miles away...!!!

Really ? the co;or is because of the sand and you do not need to worry for your lens John? Just clean it later and don't change the lens ????? I worry sometimes just here at the beach on very windy days as the lens can really get beat up :((
Did you use a filter ?

Thanks a lot Iman for the kind comment... yea, but surely at your place that clouds must be more closer to the ground so perchaps you ...'taste' it more than us! :-D anyway is was a great day for me...as I never have came to your country...something I must do before pass away! hahahahaha!!!!! You hate it because you have it more...but for me it was the day that anything I shot, it was a great shot!!!!!!! So simple!!!

John Hatz John Hatz   {K:156973} 5/31/2007
Thanks a lot Ameed for the great comment...
Even I haven't got there...I know well how the heat makes people feel like... even that wasn't a so hot day...not at all I can bet the temprature wasn't more than 25 Celsius but it was enouph hot so no rain and so that deep yellow...if it was rain (many times doing that) we have a clear sky in some minutes but we have a yellow ground! :-D
...and ofcaurse that looks like so yellow but the big problem was in reality at very high as the sand pass us mostly like a big cloud so the ...taste of the air surely wasn't so strong like the desert...at least I am on an island and the sea around us...gives a better result and a faster end on that type of weather!
Again thankds a lot for the very kind comment!

Hi John, This is a very ncie shot,
It is a very well known thing, it is because when it gets really hot in the Sahara, the air touching the surfice is really hot, then it expands and cary tiny pets of sands,
Specially in Kuwait, Where i was born and raised, it is a very very well known thing, it is called Tooz over there :)
Man I wouldn't go out and shoot in that weather :)
But you got a very nice shot over here,
Nice one and take good care :)

What an amazing phenomenon - hope your camera was well protected! Never experienced this in Tarifa, though we are a little closer to the Sahara...

This is taking the "no PS, no filter" ethic to extremes - fascinating shot.
