El Chalten, a small town that is the starting point for many hikers and climbers into the Fitz Roy area, is a place of contrasts. Old telephone wires and internet service, satellite TV and old mobile trailers, vehicles from another age and modern SUV's. So far there are no stop lights or paved roads in El Chalten, but this will not last for long. Big new hotels and high end houses are springing up everywhere in stark contrast with the old A-frame climbers shacks.
