Hello Mary,
I shot this intentionally. i photographed this bridge many times and i personally prefer washing out the distance. i think it looks more like an art image this way.

A nice shot of an old bridge.The blurry effect of the bridge is a bit disturbing though did you try to take another shot and focus on the bridge and and the wooden way and just blur the background trees maybe it would look better.
