Hi Onie,
Yes a variety of wood. The natural edge bowl on the foreground is red oak that I salvaged from a fire wood pile. The couple in the back are walnut, the bowl in the middle is iron wood and the middle right is soft maple. I use a variety of finishes. I've been using a turner's lacquer recently. I also use polyurethane and even wax. Thanks for the interest in my bowls Onie. I'm looking forward to seeing your "idea".

Hi Joe... I've come to see these beautiful turned bowls...:))) You have several different woods here yes???...
The colours and densities are different and so very pretty... Love the individual markings... Do you wax, oil or seal with either shelac or synthetic...??? Lovely patina on these Joe...:)))
Now it's you who has given me an idea LOL... I'll let you know when... ~~GRIN~~...

Hi Joe,
The natural edge bowl is beautiful! My partner does wood turning. Your choice of wood is gorgeous as is the finish on the bowls. I like the way you have displayed the bowls showing each one off to its best advange, wonderful glowing tones to the wood and the clarity is great.

Joe -- first off, as one who has never mastered the lathe, my hat is off to you. Wonderful work there turning wood with obvious care and artistry. I will put in an order now for the large bowl for a salad service. :)
That said, you have done well with the lighting and the backdrop to show the work off so nicely and I really like the results. You succeeded in drawing out the texture, depth and color to best advantage. Well done. Double points for the lathe and the picture!
