About This tree was first planted in April 1873 and was imported from India at 8 ft. tall-- Now it is over 60 ft high with 12 major turnks in addition to a huge core. It stretches over a 200 ft. area & shades 2/3 of an acre. This is one of the largest Indian Banyan tree's in the world.
It lives in the park across from the harbor in Lahaina , Maui.. . The image previously was just a small branch from this tree.....

I am not surre if this is concentricity but the tree is all connected to onoe core -so it could be (?)

Thank YOU Onie for your interest-- I have been sort of surprised by the little that is known about these wonderful tree's here in the USA- and actually all over - excepting for India-- don't know if you read in my comments but Pradnya D-- if you are familiar with her (?) She says that married women actually take a special day of worship for this tree - for their husbands longevity (?) Well those weren't her exact words, but the jest of it ...
I have read a lot about these tree's but not that part and she is from India ....

Thank YOU Onie,
Michele~

Another of natures wonders Michele... :))) Like Annemette, first thing I thought of was, what a great tree to climb in and rest among the highway of branches... Truly amazing the birds and animals it must give refuge to, plus the human enjoyement also...:)))

I for one am going to look this up to read the story...:)))

Thanks Michele...:)))

Onie...

Thank YOu for your comments Doyle and your interest ! I am not so sure exactly how this tree works...so I don't want to say the wrong thing... If you haven't found out the answer yet, I will be glad to look into it as well. If you want to read and see a simular image - look up Banyan Tree,Lahaina , Maui...it would explain better than me anyway ... it is a wonderful Tree :)

Best Regards,
Michele~

gosh, these things are HUGE! I love the way it spreads out to create such a beautiful canopy.

You did a nice job with the capture, the people seated beneath it give it great scale.

Such a fine example of concentricity, Michele!
This tree really looks awesome and I´m so happy you took it from this angle making us see it much clearer. It must be great to climb in!
Best wishes

Ok, this is just too cool of a tree . . . My mind just went fish-eyed crazy wanting to get a shot of this!!!

So do I undestand correctly that the branch touches down . . . sends new roots out . . . and the one tree has, essentially, many trunks??? Or do the roots just sprout more and more trunks.... How unique . . .

Regards -
Doyle I
