So, apparently the filtering algorithms didn't yet entered the age of internationalisation in their unimagiable effort to protect us from the bad words that could damage our mental health. Which adds another more practical problem to the whole idea of sensoring mechanically. Letting all the theorectical problems aside, which are very interesting for themselves too, here we see another facete of the limited minds of our protectors. Since Goedel we know that it is impossible to completely formalize the concept of language in order to develop a mechanism of such a filtering that blockes out the bad intentions (as Carlin says), rather, than filtering out messages mercilessly, and also stupidly, simply by parsing the content of the messages and find the vorbidden words. If those protectors were really interested for a more human approach they would *read* all the posted messages and simply drop a line to the originators of some hypothetical message containing bad intentions - and invite him/her to write more carefully in future. I don't accept practicability problems of this approach as an excuse since the practicability problems of finding an algorithm after having completely formalized language are infinite! And they were accepted!

After all, we could also write messages with much much much worse content without using any of the words in that black list. I can only hope that the mediocre character of such filtering mechanisms will be reason to deactivate them some day.

Thanks a lot for the link to Carlin's article! This guy is irrepeatable! Take him as a mental guide for every website like UF on this f.... up world! (I didn't say that word! But I *did* think it! ;-))

Best wishes,

Nick

Nick - Carlin really puts it all together. Here is a wiki article on his routine (and there is a link to the transcript for the routine at the bottom of the page):

Nick - Yeah, I had a hard time getting a sentence that would pass the muster and get through the gauntlet.

I have a photograph posted here titled Pu$$y Gato. I can't talk about it because I can't type it's name into comments (apparently these restrictions don't apply to the title field). And yet I can say puta mierda and that's ok.

But it seems that alterating each letter with a blank does work. See: "B a n n e d"!

So, let's use this possibility of communication before the block it out too. Now we only have to make a list of the bad words - and hopefully finish it in the next few years! :-)

I know that s h i t is one of them. Also perhaos some derivatives of s m o k e though I am not sure about the latter!

It was the word "b a n n e d", James, which is completely ununderstandable as a word that cause messages to be blocked - or it it? Except of course if the double moral of sensorship is of such a higly developed nature, that it has to b a n the world "b a n" itself, for suggesting that there is freedom of expression. B a n n i n g? Not here! This is the only explanation that I can that think off. Of course, sensored freedom of expression is not freedom of expression at all, even if it is a single word that causes messages to be blocked out, much like we wouldn't say that somebody is not guilty because of killing "only" one person, and not some 200.

I will write to you also to your email, as soon as possible. What a h y p o c r i s y it is, to sing hymnes to freedom of expression and to prevent it which ever way!

But I'll keep your characterisation for sensorship: "The worst chicken merde popsicle sucking wee knee wagging imaginable" because it turns it not only mediocre but also so laughable!

Nick - Hehe. Just let me say that I agree that sensorship is the worst chicken merde popsicle sucking wee knee wagging imaginable.

But, I still have no f-stop clue what word prevented my previous comment from posting.

Excuse me for the inconvenience, James, but this was the only way to find out what the reason for the denial of my and your message was!

Again, here it is, the 3rd part of my response to your message, in which you dared include the word b***d - which the admins of this forum do block out together with other words. And of which fact they don't even have the courage to accept that they do that - or else they would never block out a message containing a word like "b**n". What an attitude!

Anyway, on to my reply:

Not that it makes the music itself better or worse, no! It only underlines that uncomfortable knocking on the doors of establishment that only follows the so healthy habits without having any idea about the importance of physical health. And in this direction of thoughts, I may add that nobody ever - absolutely nobody! - of the sprits that added something important to our world ever had a healthy life ;-) Mental power is the only thing that matters. The rest is unimportant even in case of the so called "early" d**eath! Arts doesn't seem to care that much about physical health, or else Michelangelo would never be in our memories. Which of course doesn't mean that one has to damage the own health for getting closer to artistic work - it's only that physical health becomes so unimportant then... Imagine only what we all do for a great image - most of it completelly unhealthy! ;-)

Anyway, I close my message with the words of that man that still represents the very quintessence of rock - Pete Townshend, and his typical humor in one of the unrepeatable concerts of The Who:

"People try to protect their hearing... it's too late!!" ;-)

Well, should we hope to "d** before get old" in the lyrics of the same mind shaking band? Perhaps not that drastically expressed in words, but I hope we get the intention.

Best wishes and excuse my too enthusiastic reference to that phenomenon of rock. You see, after so many years my shoes still go tapping for themselves when listening to those riffs.

Nick - and this time quite ang**ry about that kind of sieving of messages due to "unhealthy" content! What hyp***ts you are, UF-admins?

What a silliness! The word "ba***d" was enough to block your message, James! What a mediocre and hypocritical obeyance to brainless rules for some kind of hypothetical protection against the corruptors of that kind of established statements that do niot say anything! And this from a forum that pretends to be so open to all directions! This goes immediately to the corner of complaints!

Portion 2!

Your message:
-
Nick - Thanks. I work to capture that dynamic nature. You have it right except for the .. because we have .. .. inside here ;-)
-

Some general thoughts here, which should be taken with some salt.

As Angus said to Stefan Raab in a late night show recently, if you go for rock you need one of these on your lips.

Yeap, it was that Angus, Angus Young of AC/DC! ;-)

Nick Karagiaouroglou Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:127263} 3/31/2007
James, for some reason your reply does not appear in the list of messages in the forum, but since I did receive it, I insert it in this message and reply after your text.

Since my reply also seems to be blocked, I'll try to send it in portions for easier finding out what words may have disturbed the auto-sieving mechanisms of this forum, which I do sicnerly hope supports what we know as freedom of expression. So the next portions of my message will arive soon.

That's a good example of how photography can capture the atmosphere by not being an exact depiction of real worls, but rather by using an exaggerated view of some event in order to capture what is visible in mind and not only by the eyes. Apart from the fact that I wish I could stand on that scene with the guys (and turn it to a metal adventure ;-)), you managed to recreate the atmosphere of drinks, smokes, jokes, and joy during such a gig!

Best wishes and keep it up,

Nick

Composition and colors (that's RGB! :)) rule very well this shot, James!
I generally look for the maximum sharpness in photographs but, in this one, motion is another keypoint that strongly contributes to its dynamism; it takes you inside the action making you imagine of being surrounded by people listening with you to the good music they are playing.
Impressive; congrats!
Best regards, Paolo
