About I was about to bake when I had to take photos of the oil in the bowl of water looking fascinating with all the shadows that the oil made on the bottom

What to do when using a compact camera? Well, use knowledge and manual settings. Or even best throw that thing away and get your real camera out of the drawer. ;-)

Wanting them all to be clear and also near... I could swear that you don't use a structured and systematic approach, so I might as well say, just use your mere enthusiasm. ;-)

But seriously now: Wanting "all of them clear"... What does it imply? A fundamental question for anybody that wants to do serious photographic work. It has to do with the focal distance and circles of confusion, so it *is* essential. I'm sure you'll find that out. As a hint: http://www.dofmaster.com/digital_coc.html

Best wishes of confusion,

Nick

Yes I know. Well here it´s worse, but what to do when using a compactcam? I put it on macroprogram to get a clear view of some of the olispots that I was amazed by because of the shadows they cast.
What to do when wanting them all to be clear and also near?
Thanks for commenting. Always nice to get some critique like this:-)

Quite the same problems of focus/DoF like on the "Ready to be absorbed" though here the differential noise makes the water drops under the glass a bit more recognizable. But still their contours are almost washed off.

As a general rule of thumb, capturing food is way not as easy as it seems. For a good and interesting capture a huge number of preparation steps has to be done, in order to make it interesting.

Best wishes,

Nick
