Captivating title and image Kes- like a song title about the place. Especially after reading the "Blood of Christ"! Wonderful colours and textures.

Cool idea for a title, I like stuff like that, and I love this shot. I like the two surfaces which run against each other. There are the mountains which seem to flow to the right of the photo, the grass seems to be flowing left. And then the clouds sort of meet in a X above. Cool composition, good eye. -Tim

Hi Andre, Yes, I agree; it's my familiarity that has to be overcome, to "see" the shot. To me, the local landscape can become hum-drum. Then I'll think, "if so and so were here he/she would get a good shot"... and this gives me some inspiration to look for it...again. Kes

Hi Kes, We have to keep in mind who the viewers are on this site. As you say "familiarity breeds contempt" but thousands of viewers here are NOT familiar with our local scenes :) We are all guilty of walking by great images every day that we take for granted. Andre

Thanks Andre! This is across the valley from the "sagebrush & snow" shot. It's the Sangre De Cristo range...which translates to "Blood of Christ". With a covering of snow and the beginning of sunrise, they have a nice red color.
Taking local shots is monetarily driven: if I could afford to go to exotic locations I just might. Even in Colorado there are a lot of places I would like to get a shot at sometime. It's rewarding to get an interesting shot of the everyday scene, although you really have to look for it...through the familiarity breeding contempt and all that.
As you imply, there is plenty of challenges to be found in the local landscapes, and I do feel fortunate to live here.

Hi Kes, I like the colour of the plains in this shot. The image has a really nice rugged look to it. Nice explanation for the title. Just a little info to make us wonder about the rest of the story. :)
One of the things I like about your work is how you seem to take pride in showing off your local surroundings as one of your main themes. I try to do the same for Ontario as you do for Colorado. After-all our countries are not just made up of one or two famous landmarks. Andre
