About A number of determined speed skaters braved frigid temperature and snow to compete on a local frozen lake yesterday. This shot is a little different for me. I am interested in your feedback.

Awesome action shot, Joe! The snow lines add to the feeling of speed, and the skaters bodies are in perfect motion. Wonderful winter scene, and very brave of you to get out there with the camera on a frozen lake! Love the colorful outfits and the people's intense expressions! I hope you have this published! Best regards, Ina

Thanks Doyle for the detailed comments and the suggestion. As I recall, I've done very little pp on this image. All I did was crop the original a little. I'm pretty sure I did not boost the saturation. I think the brighter participants pose a nice contrast to the rather drab surroundings and bg. It symbolizes there enthusiasm on a rather inhospitable morning and thus contributes to the theme. Thanks very much for your interest and input.
Have a great day.

Nicely Done!! You have captured this in a great way . . . it feels so dynamic. It looks like selective coloring . . . I might have considered dropping the saturation a bit to subdue the color visible and make the shot feel a tad more realistic . . . though that may not have been your goal it is my personal preference. This is well done, overall. :)

Thanks Meg for the comments and the feedback. The lake was about 3 weeks late freezing this year but we have had good stretch of well below zero weather lately. The ice is good and thick now.
All the best.

You are so brave going out in those conditions, the lake here hasn't frozen like that in almost fifty years.
I very much like how you captured the movement and the intencity of the moment as well as the obviously cold conditions.

you deserve a medal to be out in weather like that :)

good action shot and the driving snow helps to enhance the feeling of movement throughtout the photograph.

The splashes of colour are an added bonus from the hats and jackets.

regards

Hey Joe,

as a thumbnail it didn't look like much but this is an image full of action and human emotion. I can almost feel the cold and the effort these people are getting through in oreder to be the first!
Well done my friend:)

Thanks very much Jan for your detailed feedback. I didn't have to wipe the filter too often as I had a lens hood on that keep out most of the snow and I put the camera under my coat when not shooting. A bigger problem was that my shutter finger kept freezing up.
Have great day.

Joe -- This one gives an excellent feeling of movement/action and the snow streaming down makes it top notch. The slightly dark yet colorful rendition makes me feel like I am really there. How many times did you have to wipe your lens or filter while you were out there?
--Best to you, Jan
