Doyle,
She's a beauty. I can't believe how close I got to her. I was hoping she would take flight because the corner she was in would have forced her to fly by me in sunlight with the light at my back. So here I am, standing in the middle of the field. I set my camera to shoot in the light, with AI servo and mode 2 IS. I take a few steps forward, ready for her to bolt so I can snap some in-flight pics. She stays still. I set the camera back to shadow settings, one shot focus and mode 1 IS. I take a few pictures, set the camera back to shoot in the light and repeat the process. When she finally took off, I was too close. I have some great shots of her in flight minus the wing tips. DOH!
Anyway, I'm still pleased with the frame filling shots I got.

Another good one . . . even better (IMO) in that it has the whole bird. Great source of shots and natural poser, huh? Very nice!!

Thanks, Art! I have trouble containing myself sometimes, and drool when I get home and review my pics on the monitor. That lens is superb! No regrets.

Hi Yamil,
This lovely female has been a winter resident in the same field for many years. I can head out on any given day and be almost guaranteed to see her. Dawn and dusk are the best times, but they are daytime hunters and can be found at any time. We are fortunate to be in their winter range here in Ottawa. We are located at the foot of the Canadian Shield. The Champlain Sea used to cover most of Eastern Ontario and has left some VERY flat, open fields similar to the northern tundra.
Thanks for your nice comments, Yamil. I'm glad to be able to share this with everyone.

Very nice Todd, looks like you were able to get pretty close too. Everytime I look at your 300 2.8 shots, I drool. That lens is so sharp and crisp. Your deer shots are excellent too. So sharp, nice lighting and the bokeh is a killer too. Well done Todd, very nice.

Hi Todd, How frequent do you see this guys? We have one near Grizzly Island on the Sacramento Delta, but it's very unusual for Snowy Owls to come down this way. Congratulations for this wonderful capture my friend. Regards. Yamil
