Hi Dave,
Glad you saw this one too. I found it on NY Eve Day.... after I had got a flat tire on a logging road, and drove for almost 2 hrs. to town .I found this house along the way. I did spend about 30 minutes.. and wierd you say that about getting too close , but nope... Never entered my mind. I was very close really. I did circle the house and got at least 7-8 images... I figured I would be back soon. Now with the new camera I have a very good reason ...+ the snow storm ... I want to go back ASAP.
Thank You for viewing and for your time my friend.

I could have spent all day at this place, shooting angles and windows and doors... didn't I see a very similar on, nearly falling down, in your album from a long time ago?

Of course, you probably didn't want to get too close to this...

Thank You AJ... yeah I don't really know all the things that could be wrong with this image.. It definitely looks over-saturated.. but I didn't do it much... It also could be over-sharpened too... anyhow I will get back there with the new camera and not do all that stuff to it !! Ha!!

hi michele, long time since i was on usefilm, i have been busy setting up an own architectural office and moving, but now seeing this great picture i just have to congratulate you on this one. i like the composition and the original very much, and as a new architect this is a very interesting house for me Anyway, the enhancement in colors lifts the picture to a whole new and almost abstract level. Very nice! All the best in this new year! Marco.

I do like the scene, although I find it a little tightly cropped on the right.

But whatever happened to the colours? I see that Doyle made some adjustments, but you posted another shot among the comments that supposedly had less saturation. However, I still see very strong blues in this - I'm not clear whether this comes from some other aspect of post-processing or an in-camera setting.

The trees also appear to have become rather pixelated - perhaps due to oversharpening?

Whatever, I think this is a great subject and hope you can get back and take a lot more shots.

AJ

Hi John, I think I've over-saturated but other than that don't know what You mean by 'some quality needed here... (?) I would love to understand tho ..because I want to have good quality in my pictures ..
Thank you John.
I'm adding another shot of the house that I batrely saturated at all.. does it seem any better ?

Hey great deal Michele....I think I will play around with it......It will be a perfect image for me to pratice on turning regular image into
IR with photoshop. A technique Ive been working on alittle sence I really dont have a lot of luck shooting them with my unfriendly IR cameras! lol
I still have hopes for the little 5 mp olympus.
I think its going to do ok as long as Im using the night vision. Alittle tip I got out of one of my magazines! lol
Thanks Michele!

Your friend,

Paul

Great shot Michele!!!
This is a find.....I like Doyle's
suggestion as far as desaturating
the green in the background. It will
only add more emphasis on the house
(Your subjet) This is really a very,
very good capture and whatever you can
do to do keep your viewers eyes on it
is only a plus! Congrats on your
steam rolling talent. Very excited to
hear that you will soon be getting your
new dslr! Your ready for it Michele!

Congrats on anther great addition to your
portfolio!

Paul E Brumit

PS.....Ive been thinking that this would make a great infrared image! lol

Well Michele, if every picture tells a story, this one creates more questions than it answers about the story of this house and how it got to be in it's current condition.

How lond has it been empty, who lived there last, why did they leave it empty? How many families were homed here, how many childhood memories echoe through the empty halls? We'll never know, but now we can all wonder about it because you photographed it.

J.

Dear Michele
Amazing video with the horses! The partnership and friendship between them and the men without use of violence is a treat for the eyes. There must be a lot of trust between them. Thanks for sharing - I think I´ll show it to my aunt and cousin that are horsepeople:-)
Yes, I did look at the Photofiltre and I saw the frames, so I might use it one of these days! Thanks for the advice!

Doyle D. Chastain Doyle D. Chastain   {K:101119} 1/4/2007
Awesome find Michele! The composition is good, though a bit tight on the right side crop . . . perhaps easy to fix by a step or two back and slight tilt to the right. I find myself concerned with your post-processing here though. Seems oversharpened a tad OR thats due to the increased saturation. Just a bit too much my friend . . . the blue on the roof is particularly distracting to me.

Now don't get upset with me . . . you know I gotta tell it like I see it. But you have what I consider a MAJOR find for photo shooting and that natural eye for a composition (it IS natural to you now, I can tell) has kicked into high gear. Your finds keep getting better and better and this is a real gem. But I'd work on (midtones if possible) lighting and certainly be cautious about over-saturation of color.

That being said . . . it's a great shot, a good composition (would be great but for the right side crop) and a priceless find. And the bulding's abandoned? Seems fine to me, they don't sell Duct tape up there?? I gotta go with the crowd and give it a 6/7 - Wow . . . I think you've come a LONG way very quickly!

For Sale: Multi-level home on scenic property. A fixer-upper perfect for a do-it-yourselfer! Buy now . . . this is one deal that won't last long!

Hehehehee!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Hi Annemette,
Thanks so much for commenting . Yes, I do wonder abvout the history of the old house !! I'll no doubt be keeping an eye on it too.
BTW have you checked out the Photo Filtre porgram? I am still playing around with it but haven't figured out the frames yet.. One day soon I hope ..
I do like your inspiration Annemtte.. it's wonderful to share and be inspired. I want to share this video with You too.. I first thought of Mary Slade because she likes the horses so much but we all like them and this is very inspirational..and beautiful. Mary says she loved it.

Thank You Terry... I really lucked out because I got a flat tire shortly after I started onto the logging road and had no phone reception.. and it was New Years Eve afternoon ... so no body was open to repair the tire. I had to drive on the flat for over an hr. real slow to try to save the rim..... so at least I managed to Find a Trueasure !

Oh yes! I also love old deserted houses, Michele, so I understand why you had to check this one out. A pity that it is so run down that you can´t get into it. I wonder who lived there and why the place got abandoned.
Thanks for sharing this!

Lot of personality in this old house; for sure I would suggest you not venture in for fear of collapse. In fact the sound of the camera may have been enough to bring it down. Love the color and texture in this photo. Reminds me of an old song: "This old house ain't afraid of thunder...".
Best to you, Jan
