Mel -- Thanks for your comments! You may be on to something about the tongue position. I am lucky to be blessed with great kids and a son-in-law and daughter-in-law that I love as if they were my own children. As for your first son-in-law, forgive him not his point-and-shoot and lead him to the waters over time, if he will be lead. If not, so be it. :) --Best to you, Jan PS: Loading a medium format camera isn't really so bad; it does take a bit of practice. Used to use them in the 1960's (Hasselblad & Rolleiflex) and didn't think much of reloading.

This looks very complicated, and obviously the most important part of the process is the tongue has to be held just so! A wonderful shot and memory, Jan, you are so lucky to have such a beautiful family! I'm only just in the process of aquiring my first son-in-law, unfortunately he's not photo orientated....oh well, he's a lovely young man, and thats the main thing :)

Viola - thanks so much for your very kind comments. I never saw Joel without the Hasselblad the whole time he was here during the Christmas holiday. I think if I sneaked into his bedroom and turned on the lights in the middle of the night he would be found staring through the waist-level viewfinder while in bed! Now that would be some photograph. --Best to you, Jan

Thanks for viewing, Roger. Joel is getting pretty good at getting loaded; not sure he is ready for the international competition yet - but he is getting there. For the incentive of winning a Blad I could load 120 film pretty fast myself with some practice. Used to have one myself in the 60's and 70's but sold it off with tons of other equipment I wish I had kept. Rollei, Leica, Linhoff, Speed Graphic, Omega D-3, etc. Sigh! --Best to you, Jan

Michael-- glad you enjoyed seeing Joel "revealed". There is another one of him posted "face on" for even more notoriety. There are a few other family linked folks on usefilm. One very notable family is Doyle and Marlyce Chastain. Their son sometimes contributes as well -- last time I looked he was in Afghanistan in the military and posting from time to time as well. I am pretty sure I have seen some other family-linked contributors as well. I take it your wife thinks we are all nuts anyways! :) --Best Holiday wishes to you and your family --Jan

No freaking way - very unusual to see a uf family, if my wife knew such a thing was possible I think she would roll her eyes and really have to give in to the insanity.

So there are further benefits to the digital takeover, although Joel does actually look as though he's enjoying this!
I likely the comfortable homely background to this shot - adds some reassuring sanity to the "mad doctor" look.
With best wishes for Christmas, AJ

Michele-- thanks for your lovely comments. If I had been asked before hand (before my daughter Lisa met Joel) to describe an ideal son-in-law, the description would have fit Joel perfectly. When Christmas rolls around my son and daughter and their spouses, Joel and Shannon, are all together -- for this I am so grateful. --Best to you also, Jan

Paul-- Thanks! I am waiting for Joel to enter his next retro phase when he decides he needs to schlep an 8x10 view camera around to recreate the style of Ansel Adams. Back in the 60's when I did freelance news photos I carried a 4x5 Speed Graphic and that was quite a haul with strobe and film packs & backs. Imagine Joel with 8x10 Super Technika or some such. I await the day :) --Jan
