Thank you for your prayers Dear Michele...
Fires still raging... :( No rain, only a few showers on the way (possibly). The heat here is unbearable, but we still must bear it. I feel admiration and respect for our fire-fighters who feel the heat far more than what we do!!! There are many units (up to 75) in so many areas of the state... Mostly in Forest fire situations. Another wildfire has just broken out... It is large... so far only 13 units have been able to get there...
We stay on guard. We are praying...
Much Love, Aniko

As "predicted"... fires have broken out all over the state. The worse in recorded history here, according to the experts who are basically fighting a losing battle. But out fire-fighters are incredibly brave and I applaud their efforts!!! Firefronts are now joining up and becoming ONE HUGE fire front... The smoke was so thick this morning, and visibility poor... I have many friends who are fretting over loved ones in very serious fire situations. So far, where I am, we only have small spot fires. The air is eerie... we have not had birds singing here... very unusual. The still silence is a worry. Tomorrow is expected to be much worse... Temperatures are very high (close to 100 degrees F) and we await a "change", but it will be dry lightning strikes and ghustly winds most likely. Not good....We need RAIN! (Fast!!!)
I am constantly keeping an eye on updates...
I hold everyone in my prayers...
Aniko

"Information" is my middle name, Dear Michele!~ lol.... Indeed I have grown "up" with wildfires most of my lfe. I don't want to sound flippant about it it. But as a child, it was not my choice to be here, yet I grew to LOVE it... I moved off this highly fire prone mountain after age 15 (again not my choice) and returned around age 24. MY CHOICE!!!! All has changed here (tourist invasion and "locals" declining...) Still, I feel the pull of the bush...I can even "pretend" Life is Sacred here. There are now only small "pockets" of land that have not been "contaminated"... Indeed I am emotionally charged... :) My heartfelt apreciation that you have obvious passion regarding all of this... :)
You can do nothing... as I can do nothing... well, other than document with photographic journalism whatever is happening here. Your sweet compassion is appreciated. And yes, it helps me to write about this, and I thank you dearly for bothering/caring to read my words/feelings...
I find it incredibly frustrating that in the year (close enough) 2007, we are still on tank water... ?????????? Yet it is KNOWN all too well that we are indeed the 3rd most bushfire prone area in the world... go figure!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When fires come (often), we must cut the gas (obviously) and also electricity which pumps our limited tank water is cut... Yes, I have a petrol generator... but it is not enough. It does not give enough power... and needs refuelling rather quickly... bushfires are quicker...
However, remember that it is MY choice to live here. So "complaining" is useless. I have the option to move away into the horrid suburbs into a tiny rental apartment. No thanks. I'll always BRAVE it ... :)
Hold a good thought for us dedicated mountain dwellers my friend. Summer is upon us and there is an eerie hazardous feeling this season... our time has come...
Thank you so much for your kind understanding and thoughtfulness... it means a great deal to me.
By the way.... I am a survivor!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) (Read my profile...though it is brief and a very small skim of the surface of my personal Life...)
Loving Hugs! Aniko :)

Wow ! Aniko what an interesting message . I appreciate you writing it . It's totally filled with information . It makes me feel like I should do something....It sounds like you have grown up with wildfires all of your life. That would make a person get emotionally charged over an issue.. I would love to see more of your country and this mountain you live on....
Aniko if there is anything I can do .. please let me know and if you just feel like writiing please do .. I find this very interesting and feel like someone should do something somewhere ? You know what I mean ..? You would feel the same I am sure .
Hugs~ Michele~

Hi Michele!
I'm glad you like the image of this brave little creek (which used to be rather a big creek...not anymore...in fact I'm thinking of photographing some of our smaller creeks or where water had once flowed...where there is only the dry creekbed...) Where I live, it is the 3rd most bushfire prone area in the entire world. With 10 years of drought and many fire outbreaks (mostly on the other side of the mountain as I live on the "cooler" side), we are all pretty sure our time has come round. It has been 45 years since a bushfire could not be contained where I live taking out every single house in my road. My house was built to replace the one that burnt down. At that time, I was a small babe living on the other side of the mountain which was also on fire (it often is...) and we had been evaculated to return to our back porch smoldering, but my childhood home still stands, after many evacuations for not only our family, but those who have, over the years since I was 15 yo, bought and sold my childhood home. I have lived somewhere on the mountain most of my life and I will not leave. Last stop for me... But I am so sure the fires will take us this summer. We have so many outbreaks already over the rest of the state/country. There will be no chance of fighting the fire that sweeps through where I live.... So sorry to rave on. A very emotionally charged issue, and in the meantime, I'll photograph the brave little creeks and controlled backburning being carried out... I think it's too late...
Hugs~ Aniko :)

Dear Liz:
I empathize... Our really small creeks in this district have totally dried up. The one in this image was once a magnificent creek that had heaps of baby waterwalls etc...lush greenery and moss. ferns growing not browning off...as they are now... :( This is low water for this creek and although I have called it a brave little creek, it is one of our larger ones; in fact it goes for miles and miles.
Thank you for your kind comments and COME ON LET IT RAIN!!!!
Cheers, Aniko :)

A wonderful shot, with strong composition and beautiful natural colours

Thank you for that hint Shirley. I have used this camera before and have a couple of images from it posted here, but I was not 100% happy... so thanks for the hint! :)
(I'm using very unusual light light also and it's hard to focus which I prefer manually and aperture priority... hand holding at ridiculously slow shutter speeds... lol... having fun!)

Thank you Dear Shirley.
This is not the best shot of it, but you know what happened with my camera! There is another I think I can still salvage... it is a closer crop and a better compostion (I think... lol...)
Currently I am experimenting with a friend's digital camera... I think the darned thing is a nightmare, but I have had a "vision"... lol... Let's see what a digital camera will give me, if anything. :)
Warmest Hugs~ Aniko :)
