Overexposed? I don't think it is - perhaps what you're referring to is the sheen on the petals, which is either the velvety surface, or possibly pollen. You're correct about the flowers in the background. I looked for a long time to find a flower like this that gave me a clear path to the pistil, and I should have composed so that just the center of the flower with the pistil was in view - since that was the subject I had in mind.
