Nigel,

I put on my best duck disguise and snuck up on them. ;^)

Actually, it's that lens. Pulls things right in close.

Dave,

They'll be gone soon, but then the owls move in. We had a major irruption of Great Gray Owls 2 years ago. Last year, some of them came back! I'm anxious to see if they make another appearance.

Doyle,

That actually might be a male. It is an American Black Duck, not a Mallard. The female Mallards are the light brown ones (right behind the main subject). It is actually a very poignant photo if you relate it to human context and our abismal record of tolerance for people that are different. I can almost envision a black man standing in a crowd of white people with the same expression on his face, feeling outnumbered and alone in a crowd

Todd.

Nice one Todd, she sheems to just stand out as if she is modelling the lastest fashions. Focus is bang on.

Looks like they're all giving her a little room there too, Todd! Well seen and captured, I bet they won't be around much longer.

WONDERFUL!!!! I like it Todd. It's almost like she stepped into an open area just for you! Awesome focus on her and the DOF is about perfect (including the sliver of water). . . still get the great colors off the males and the impression that this is a large group . . . but not the distraction. Great idea not to just choose a male for a random focal point to get the colors (like so many--myself included--would have)! While it's a busy composition . . . I really like it! I assume you watched out when you layed down for these shot! LoL!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~:)
