About I took this shot for a "Faceless Portrait" challenge. Part of the goal was to show the essence of a person without revealing his/her face. I think I met the challenge perfectly.

Must have been too dull for some as sadly, it didn't do too well with votes. But then, I was up against some awesome talent (reality check). Still, I liked what I was able to achieve here with natural window light, and that's what counts :)

Ahhh, but let's not confuse Geeks with Nerds now Doyle. You see, Nerds can play with toys well BUT... Geeks are the ones who develop those toys... Supreme intelligence is an aphrodisiac, my friend ;)

Cheers Mark :) I definitely agree with your assessment, the relaxed feel is what I was aiming for. I'm very glad you like it. If only UFers were the voters in this challenge...

Wonderful idea to characterise and personalise without a face! Maybe a fuller and more natural portrait with images of more than just a smile.

Rina:
Great shot and IMO a great entry in the contest . . . but "Sometimes outrageous, always funny, hopelessly romantic... my husband is a lovable uber geek and the sexiest man I know." is NOT a sign of Geekiousness. By definition - true Geekocity is not rewarded with females of the opposite sex as companions . . . and certainly not of your caliber (i.e., playing with action figures on the beach)! uhhhhhhh . . . wait a minute . . . you play with action figures in the sand . . . oh . . . uhhhhhh . . . WHAT'S WRONG WITH THOSE JUDGES? Bet he knows the Star Wars Saga by heart too! LoL! :)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

An excellent humourous portrait Rina and I'll go along with you for you met the criteria perfectly. White socks eh! Dangerous things to wear in the UK. Incidentally, I am pleased to note that the book is perched in the hand and displaying three fingers. Always best to play safe for the viewers:):)

Hope you are OK sweetie with everything in NZ working for you....Bye for now gorgeous, 'see' you soon........big hugs.....Rayx;)

now if only his feet were typing on a calculator or keyboard. This reminds me of a very well done jeans commercial if only because of the very relaxed feeling of the light. First thing I did when I saw it was smile and chuckle.

Thanks Andre, I received several comments about the socks... One said the socks shouldn't be matching (obviously a geek himself) and a couple others (women) appreciating good laundry and lack of holes!

Yeah, it was great fun though. I have a long way to go before I can really be a serious contender in these challenges, but I'm personally pleased with this effort as it's straight from camera. I struggle a lot with correct exposure and having to fix issues in post, so I was over the moon with the result here.

Cheers!

It looks good to me too Rina!
The lighting is perfect and the category of the contest entry is also very fitting.

One of the great things about contests is that you know you are going to be up against some of the best. As you say, "reality check". If outstanding photographers pick their best stuff and enter it, you are talking about the cream of the crop.

Nice about!

Ps Maybe the contest judges thought his socks were way too clean for realism and took points off because they figured you made him change his socks before you snapped the shot? :)
