Doyle,
I found the cause of the halo in the Canada Geese picture. I looked at the original and I see the faint shadow of something that flew in front of my lens when I took the picture. You can see the ghostly outline in the original. Thanks for your help with this one.

Hi Marcus,
That lens gives me all kinds of confidence. I just wheeled around, pointed, and pulled the trigger. Didn't even have time to switch to AI Servo. The lens is so crisp and consistent.
Thanks for all your comments. I follow the exploits of you and Yamil, and I pay close attention to your camera settings. Thanks for including that info and sharing it with us. I hope I have the chance to meet you both some day.

Good catch. I still don't have the eye for that kind of detail. I'm still blown away by the quality of the photos this equipment can capture, and I guess I just skip over those details. Thanks for pointing that out.

I like this one Todd . . . I'm not too concerned with the wings being cropped since the capture and title all emphasize the nature of the crowded birds . . . but to my eyes there seems to be a minor halo issue under and leading the birds . . . which may have been caused by a number of things. The halo issue is not apparent on the top and doesn't significantly detract from the image quality but I would certainly repair it before printing it. All in all . . . good capture with the 300mm.
