About This is the start of my new seagull and pelican series. Spent a few hours at the beach shooting the birds flying and landing mostly, but also tried a few different shots such as this one. Unable to use the tripod as I needed to be able to change direction quickly. Lucky it was sunny so with that and an ISO of 400 I managed to shoot some reasonably sharp pics.

Excellent shot Ann - could call it the "pelican gallery". Wonderful detail and very well composed. Great work!

beautiful, Anne! you did a remarkable job without the tripod-- something that I'm sure struggling with these days!! the composition on this is great... the longer lens compressed the distances between the pelicans and the result is a really effective stacked look... excellent!

Beautiful capture Ann, he stands out perfectly agaimst the rest, and you have got some great contact here between your model and the viewer.

The three heads and four eyes certainly give this a surreal feel. The limited range of colours and textures also allow our eyes to more easily concentrate on their eyes rather than scan the image for a focal point. It's more than acceptably sharp for hand held.
Regards, Gary

PS I've a side-on close up of a pelican in my portfolio, taken in SA

Thank you Rebecca. This is one of those pictures that just sort of happened. I was actually just focusing on the front bird and didn't realise till later that the ones behind had made it into a weird kind of abstract. Cheers, Ann.

This is great Ann, looks like a pelican picasso . Under the circumstances I don't think you suffered too much without your tripod!! This composition is perfect for the Unusual Vision project, great colours, light and DoF. Excellent work and presentation.
cheers, B
