Thanks for your comments, Doyle... seeing the bear was certainly a treat for me!
The photo is indeed a bit soft-- blame it on a new camera and lens that arrived right before the trip (back ordered for three months). I am still learning how to use it. Many of my shots on the trip were soft or back focused. I meant to post a different bear pic that was sharper... I'll probably do it later.
To further complicate my life I just bought an even longer lens... now I need to get a mono-pod to get some sharper photos... and the money just flies out of my wallet....
Thanks again for your comments.

Sheeeeesh . . . and I was gonna tell my wife about this shot -- she beat me here!
I had to laugh when I read your about. We've come a long way from pioneer days when people were NOT considered 'lucky' to see a bear in the wild! LoL!
Gotta disagree with Jan too . . . eating found food instead of working for it . . . especially pre-hibernation . . . sounds smart . . . though not particularly athletic.
On a technical level . . . the shot seems to my eye to be a tad bit soft . . . though well composed. And certainly interesting. Probably would have been blurry if I took it since it's hard to hold it steady while running away!! Definitely worth capturing though. Very cool.
Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~

Awesome capture Christine, About 4 years ago I spent 2 nights in Sequoia National Park and we saw 10 bears. That was unbeliebable. Unfortunately at that time I was not interested in photography. Congratulations for this stunning behavioral shot. Yamil

Nah, he's able to survive in a world I could not... and he's getting fat and slow (my excuse, too!) because it's getting time to hibernate soon... so I guess he's smart enough!

Kinda calls my intelligence comment into question, doesn't it? Had to eat a foubnd salmon, not a caught salmon. :) --Jan

Thank you, Jan. I watched him try to catch a salmon and miss, this one he found dead in the water, but it made a good meal for him anyway, I'm sure.

The expression in his eyes almost looks intelligent. Good shot.
