Mary, I think you are right about the composition - I followed your suggestion and it works out well, the image becomes more dynamic.

Herman,

I am not always against centered comps because sometimes, they can be stunning. This one creates a static image imo which given the subject, I do not think is desirable. I must admit the subject is very appealing. I would crop from the left and the top so that the dark spot occupies the corner and bleeds out of the frame. That should bring the new growth up closer to the top left.

BTW wonderful shades of rust!!
