About I ventured into the burnt-out remains of one of our biggest fires and although the HEAT must have been INTENSE, the native grasses and in particular, the GUM TREES are already sprouting new shoots out of what seems hopelessly burnt trunks!
The grass shoots can be seen amongst the blackened rocks and the white leaves that have subsequently fallen from the upper reaches of the 'dead' trees.(Sometimes the fire goes through so quickly, that only the lower foliage is affected.
I will soon post a pic of the NEW GROWTH to appreciate better my ramblings.

Sorry, Michele, that I haven't got back to you earlier, but I'm one of these strange people that work all weekends, which turns my weekdays upside down!
I was taken aback when you revealed to me your own experience of loss. It doesn't come across in your 'replies'. I can only start to imagine your heartache of losing personal items - it's the old saying, you don't know what you have, until you LOSE it!
Will keep in touch, Michele.
From 'Down Under',
Kindly JD

Hi JD,

I am so sorry to hear of the loss. If not for your image I wouldn't have known anything about this . I watch news, but I didn't hear about this. Strong character is very good but still like 'Katrina' your live's ( if you live) are changed forever...

I was dis-placed by huricanne Ivan in Fl. and lost all material possessions.... just my computer...with pictures. Personally I am not materialistic, but there is a loss of what can I say.. besides home... You become lost for a time I think...

Hi.
Well, you can see how harsh this country can be. I guess it can happen all over, but we have just lost 6 houses yesterday and we are just into SPRING!
Yes there was loss of life, both human and animals, also many homes and livelihoods, in the original image. But having spoken to one fellow recently, most seem to take it in their stride.
Strong character!
Thank you, Michele, for your touching comment.
Regards
JD ;-)

Nice image of a very bad fire ...but 'a natural' thing right JD ?
I mean not to compliment a tradjedy but I know that we do need fires to create new growth in the wilderness. I wouldn't be saying this if anyone was hurt or lost a home, etc. .. altho animals must have been hurt...so I am sorry about this fire ...
It is good journalism might be a better way to put it.
Michele~

Yeah, graduated filters can be tricky sometimes. Or a lot of the time. Hehe. Anyway, good luck experimenting with them. Anticipate many goofs. I know I have a lot. See you around.

Nasima, I have posted the 'New Growth' photo today and have another even more striking which I would like to share with Usefilm 'warriors'.
Thank you for your comment, also.

Hi Joggie. Thanks for your interest. No the filter was actually used in the upper canopy of the trees, but as I explained the James' comment, I goofed.
I do have another striking pic of actually YOUNGER growth than the one following this pic.
Standby.....

Yes, James, I agree with your criticism of the graduating filter, a bit sloppy. It was one of the first time I used it and hadn't put much thought into it. A bit hard to correct with PS., I think.
Thank you for your comment.
Kind regards,
JD

Very cool. I look forward to seeing the next shot. A month maybe? I think maybe stepping down the graduated filter would be better. The transition seems too abrupt.

Very beautiful John. Did you use a graduated filter for the leaves? Nice work.
