Hi Arthur, In my Audubon Society Guide to Birds I found reports of the Little Blue Heron in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec and it shows some reports in the South East of Ontario. I have seem many of them in Costa Rica and Florida. Good luck getting some shot of this beautiful bird. Take care. Yamil

Thanks Yamil, you could be right. I'll change the name to Sharp-shinned hawk and see if anyone else confirms your identification. PS. We have a Little Blue Heron here which I understand is quite rare. He spends his days in a small river nearby catching fish.

Hi Arthur, great capture. Looks like a Sharp-shinned hawk. It's very similar to the Cooper's hawk, but the Sharp-shinned have legs thinner than Cooper's. They belong to the same genus- Accipiter. Sharp- shinned are widely distributed in Canada and the geographic distribution of Cooper's is more limited to the South. Take a look at this shot. http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1162942 This one is a Cooper's. I hope that helps. Yamil
