About Several of these towers have popped up on the beach this summer. The angle seems to have introduced some serious distortion - the horizon looks distinctly unhorizontal! I considered fixing it but decided it didn't detract from the image.

AJ, thanks for dropping by my portfolio and I'm glad that I was the first to post a critique all that time ago. I still think that your first image is an excellent one and I can see that you've really got your 'eye in' over the intervening time. Keep up the good work!

Doyle: too distracting? Well, it's opened my eyes to what is actually happening with the A2 (and perhaps with other lenses). And maybe with most shots you just wouldn't notice. Anyway, I assume the towers are for surveillance, although I have yet to see anyone actually "surveilling", and the ladder was a good 500m away at the next tower...

I like this, John. Very atmospheric. I like the angle of view, too. I must admit I wouldn't have noticed the distortion if you hadn't pointed it out. Something I must watch for in my own shots. Cheers, Ann.

Too distracting John . . . You and Hugo have the right idea though . . . you just have to do something about it. Wonder what the towers are for since I see no ladder . . . Hmmmmm......Intriguing shot anyway!

Hi John, I think it's quite an improvement. Not the most straight forwarded tweak, I guess... Looking at the straightened horizon, I'm beginning to wonder how the shot will evolve if you'd also correted the upward perspective. I just had to see it, so per attached. BTW, You just gotta love the lens correction tool of CS2. A one stop tool for the entire correction process, combining perspective, pinch, distort, vignetting, cyan / magenta fringing and so on in one user interface...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Perspective corretion.

Hi Hugo!

Yes, you're probably right about the distortion - here's an adjusted version, achieved using PSP9 barrel distortion correction. I didn't spot the drop - one of the perils of shooting images by the water. That's gone now as well...

hi John,

I like the low point of view, making the watch towers tower out into the pastel sky.

Interesting barrel effect on the horizon, but I'm not sure I agree it isn't distracting. Rotating it might do part of the job, but I think it requires a little bit more to correct the lens distortion all together.

There seems to be a spot on your sensor (or lens, more likely), between the tower and the stairs.

Either way, I do like the atmosphere and the feel of calmth and tranquility after a busy and hot summer day. Nice shot!

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi John

Wonderful composition and POV but Im not sure about the wobbly horizon...difficult choice.

Thanks for your comments so far and hope to hear from you again

Love the perspective and 'open-ness' about this shot. Well captured John.
Thank YOU for your recent comments.
